"I fooled some of most brilliant" says a lot about his ego.

I wouldn't be surprised.

They gave a Pulitzer to that hideous fraud, Frank McCourt, whose book was a series of lies made up out of whole cloth.

Heheheh. Apparently Jayson has learned quite a bit from his New York experience. ALWAYS go for the book deal! (It worked for Hillary, didn't it?)

Now, in my perfect world his agent will persuade him to include all the nice gossip on Clymer, Apple, Dowd, and Krugan.

Then he will go on a BOOK TOUR.

Endless hours of entertainment, Howlin! Jokes a-plenty on Leno and Letterman! Britt Hume gets an ending segment almost every night!

This has possibilities, you know. Jayson knows he won't ever work in journalism again. Why not make buckets of money trashing the rest of them?

Heheheh.

Many thanks for the confirmation! It's one thing to lie and another to do it so grossly that it's bound to kill your career. That's why I figured his behavior was partly due to drugs. Manic depressive was mentioned by Newsweek a few days ago and that's what cocaine will do. He lied with abandon when he was "up" and manic from cocaine

When he was in the depressive phase who knows what he was up to. (No, I've never used cocaine)

Woops, ignore that post. I had two FR screens up, and when I switched to the other screen and this story was on the top, I automatically assumed it was a duplicate post.
Cut me some slack, I've had a long day at work. LOL

Yep, you hit the bullseye about the drugs.

"...and I know I shouldn't be saying this, I fooled some of the most brilliant people in journalism.

He's also grandiose in his immorality. That statement makes me think less of him. And saying he "fooled" others indicates that he wasn't acting in conformity with the corporate culture of the NYTimes, but outside it.

NYT REPORTER: I WAS GOING TO KILL MYSELF . . .

But blaming it on race and substance abuse sounded more lucrative, and less painful.

What a creep.

Jayson (said) that "race, substance abuse and psychological disorders" played a much more
"nuanced role" in destroying his career than is being portrayed in the media.

In order to understand how the NY Times destroyed Jayson's career, and turned him into
a "helpless victim" about to cash in bigtime, we've managed to get a copy of the
NY Times journalistic credo:

1. Capitalism creates oppression and government creates opportunity.

2. Traditional gender roles are artificial but feminism and homosexuality are government-protected lifestyles.

3. Self-esteem is paramount; government must undertake to guarantee each citizen self-esteem.

4. The NRA is bad, because it defends the Constitution; the ACLU is good, because destroying religion and silencing believers is protected by the Constitution and the First Amendment.

5. Standardized IQ tests are racist; racial quotas and affirmative action are not.

6. Conservatives are racists; everybody knows that black people can't make it on their own without government and Big Media help.

7. Victimhood is preferred over responsible citizenship, because being a victim confers social status, government protection, job preference, network TV appearances, and lucrative book and movie deals.

I wonder whose work Mr. Blair will plagiarize for his book...

Hopefully Rush Limbaugh, so the people dumb enough to buy it will actually LEARN something!!!

"Both racial preferences and racism played a role.....
I would argue that racism had much more of an impact."
----Those are the key sentences, and the central conceit
in this entire issue. On the one hand, there's an implicit admission that he was underqualified, and got to his position in the first place because he was black, and
cunning in his ability to play that for all it was worth,
barrelling through probably all kinds of suspicions over the years from the higher-ups.On the other hand, he finally has to lay the blame on that abstract "devil" of racism that stoked his
inherently doomed ambition to make it in "the white man's world". The fact that there are a number of credible black journalists who've never felt the need to make things up, already writing for "white" newspapers is an irony that is lost on this coke-head.
This pig-headedness reminds me of the black man on the D.C.
street's reaction to the Marion Barry incident, where Barry
was videotaped smoking crack with a hooker: "Well, hell, yeah, the white man made him crazy, they made him do it!!!"
If we could penetrate this kind of logic, we'd go a long way towards understanding the kind of monster we've created
with two full generations of PC excuse-making.
