Of that 100% you donate, less than 40% usually makes it to the intended charity. You can fight this. It is very illegal to require an individual to contribute. There are plenty of lawyers ready to take up this cause (actually there are too many lawyers, but you get my drift).

As to your aside, their symbol should be a bandito with a gun in your face. The UW is the most corrupt company I have ever seen. My dealings with them in the mid 90's made me realize just how bad the UW and American Red Cross really are. All of my contributions are handed to the charities of my choice in person or via mail.

My local Council had been getting allocations from about 10 different United Way chapters. All but one have kept their allocations substantially level. That one halved it last year, and have dropped us entirely this year. Given who it is, etc., I presume that it's over the homosexual membership issue. But the rest are keeping up support.

If you search on "United Way" and "Scouts", you'll find that the vast majority fund the BSA in their areas.

You know, that business of United Way milking the military every year, with superior officers pushing subordinates to contribute for the sake of the unit's reputation, really ought to be an issue.

It is amazing the prestige associated with a successful UW campaign. I've been in several organizations where that was highly touted. It makes me wonder what the driving force is.

I just go down to my church, hand the check to the local scoutmaster and don't worry about the corruption of the UW. Besides, it really makes their day and mine to see those scouts smiling.

I stopped giving entirely to United Way when this came up a few years back. I didn't care my local UW's position. I knew that some of my cash would go to national level, and that these ideas would be killed if national would ban them. Which they didn't.

Bank robbery is a crime because one person violates another person's right by forcibly taking their property.

The SCOTUS says it is against the constitution to force people to have gay mentors for their children. Yet, the UW, in the name of non-discrimination, discriminates against such people. They are choosing immorality over morality.

I understand your freedom argument. I do not see how anyone is saying the UW should be forced to give money to Christians. We just think their policy is appalling and we're saying so. Surely you think we have that right.

I will never be forced to teach my child that homosexuality is normal. It will not happen even if I have to break the law. The "obsession" you accuse some of is that of parents for their children. Do you have kids? When you do you'll understand that instinct to protect them. But explain to me the obsession gays have over our children? Why are they obsessed with Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, etc... They can't have children as gays.

The United Way will always steer donations to causes they like and away from those they don't. Even "targeted" donations are re-programmed. If a person does a check off that they want their money to go to the local boy scouts, the local boy scouts will not get one additional dime over what the United Way has already allocated to them. This check-off may or may not be taken into consideration when setting levels for the next year, but I don't think the United Way is going to be increasing funding for the BSA anytime soon.
