Saturday, May 17th a group of Texas FReepers and family drove
across the state to New Braunfels to attend the Springfield Break
day at the Dietz Gun Range.
The weather was beautiful and we could not have had a better setting
in the Texas hill country for supporting our second ammendment rights
and enjoying the shooting. Those in attendance were:
Bigun, Texas Cowboy and his son, TheMom, RikaStrom, Stevie D 64,
PetroniDE, Eaker, humblegunner and his dad and Dix..
(As well as a couple of other folks whose names I didn't
get because I was focused more on shooting than compiling data for a thread!)
Texas Cowboy did the bulk of the planning for this event
and cooked us all a fine meal, so many thanks to him.

"Cowboy, that Blake is a cutie!!!!" Wellll, what did you expect?
I mean, heck! Look at the two guys he came from!!
LOL!
Mitch said Blake didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay and shoot some more!
Chip off both blocks!

ExSoldier, I went to college in Austin, and that's probably the most left wing city in Texas.
There's some good folks there, too, but I could never live there again.
Houston is more metropolitan than Texan, but it's a good place to live.
San Antonio has always been a very friendly city, although it's fast becoming more like Mexico than Texas.
The Dallas-Ft. Worth area is Texas in a big way. If you need the big city atmosphere with the flavor of Texas, that's the place.
'Course I'm a country boy myself so my opinion is biased.

Hats are kind of important to keep other people's brass hitting around your face and head. It also protects if a piece of brass flies behind your glasses. You ain't kidding, I've had that happen and got a burn on the
bridge of my nose. I found that Smith & Wesson make a great pair
of shooting glasses, the "code 4" with what they call a "7 base curve"
for increased peripheral protection. They are close fitting and very
comfortable although they do trap a bit of sweat.

All those guns, and no one got shoot? </end sarcasm> Some targets, some clays and several square yards of berm
were unjustly destroyed by this event. It was a sad thing to behold!
We hope to allow human shields the opportunity to protect the innocent
targets, clays and sundry landscape from harm next time! ;-)

I appreciate your affection for the long gun. I'm a bit of a pup and must stick to pistols. I've never gotten the hang of embracing the long gun with the shoulder.

Wow Eaker......that is a fantastic site! Thanks so much for the ping..........

When's the next range day and can ya make it up near Dallas ? Well, the topic did come up yesterday of conducting a tour of Texas gun ranges.
Are there any good outdoor ranges up your way that tolerate high calibers?
To: humblegunner
I believe that there is a .50 BMG range in Weatherford Texas .... about 40 miles west of Ft Worth.
There's also a HUGE range about an hour south of Abilene where you can shoot anything.

Now, dadgummit, Tom!!
I was just fine until I opened that darn link!
Now I can't see my monitor through the tears.
I'm very humbled.
Thank you, my friend.

"I've never gotten the hang of embracing the long gun with the shoulder." Then you've GOT to come to one of our shoots!
We've got some long gun shooters who could write books about it if they could stop shooting long enough to do it.

Two things you should know!
1. That "Texas Cowboy" guy knows what to do with hunks of dead cow!
2. Petroni has become quite an accomplished pistolero!
WE had a great time!

"2. Petroni has become quite an accomplished pistolero!" You know, Bigun, Petroni is the reason I quit trying to shoot a handgun.
If a Yankee can pick up a handgun for the first time and put eight in the bull, this dyed-in-the-wool Texan isn't going to embarrass himself by spraying them all over the target!
To: Allegra
Looks like y'all had a great time! We did indeed, Dix was a trooper and Fannie was a well behaved as
she could be.. even the trip there and back was fun.
I'm glad you took advantage of the weather!
We'll schedule another of these things sometime soon, I hope.

Wish I could have met you, Bigun. I've had the pleasure of meeting most of the Houston Freepers on several occasions.
I'm going to have to try Texas Cowboy's cow offerings one of these days (make mine rare, please.)
And we're gonna make a Texan out of that Yankee Petroni yet! We've got him eating crawfish and visiting the Alamo. Becoming a decent pistolero was a good next step. We have yet to get him to munch on jalapenos, but we'll work on that.

It was a beautiful Texas day for shootin'. There's not a much better way to spend a spring day than with friends, guns, dogs and BBQ.
I'm looking forward to the Second First Annual GlocktoberFest!

"Texas welcomes all gun LOVERS."Great...so, since I'm an NRA certified Firearms Instructor, and an IDPA Range Safety Officer/competitor...I'm welcome, right? I sure hope so. 'Cause there are dang few places that welcome the likes of me when I put THOSE things at the bottom of my resume which I do quite often just to see if they read past the Teacher of the Year at the TOP of the resume! LOL
