Feinstein-Schumer Gun-Control Act
The Federalist ^

Posted on 05/17/2003 8:08:32 AM PDT by Tumbleweed_Connection

PatriotPetitions. US has launched a national campaign entreating our President, House of Representatives and Senate to reject legislation renewing the 1994 Clinton-Feinstein-Schumer Gun-Control Act. Please read this brief description of the campaign and let your voice be heard on this matter.

Though House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says "The votes in the House are not there" to renew the measure, Feinstein and Schumer just introduced a bill in the Senate to renew the law, and they will press the House for a roll call vote in the upcoming election year. Unfortunately, President Bush has reiterated that he SUPPORTS the gun-ban -- an affront to the Constitutional right of all law abiding citizens to own semi-automatic sporting rifles for lawful purposes. Feinstein and Schumer even applauded President Bush, saying: "We welcome your support and look forward to working with you to gain swift passage of this legislation. With your assistance, we will be able to pass legislation to continue the ban and help make America's streets safer."

"Safer"? For whom? Such laws claim, ostensibly, to protect law-abiding citizens. Of course, only law-abiding citizens comply with these restrictions -- and at their own peril. Criminals don't care if the weapon they are using comport with the 23,000 federal, state and local gun restrictions already on the books. The Democrat's "incremental encroachment" on the Second Amendment is a thinly-veiled strategy to achieve their ultimate goal of gun confiscation, as Ms. Feinstein made clear after passage of her 1994 legislation: "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate...for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it!"

Please join fellow Patriots on the frontlines in defense of our Constitutional liberties.

Isn't the Garand available with only 8-round mags?

BTW, only MILITIA WEAPONS are protected under the 2d AMENDMENT; it's NOT about hunting ducks!

8-round EN-BLOC CLIPS.

garands, in standard form, do NOT have magazines!

what you're thinking of is the BM-62, made by berretta, which is a US-style garand, slightly modified to shoot 20/30 round mags.

What do you think of Springfield's new Garand reissue?

"Isn't the Garand available with only 8-round mags?"

The M1 Garand uses an eight round stripper clip that is shoved down in front of the bolt. If you are not careful you'll get the M1 thumb.

No he hasn't. Ari Fleischer said he did in response to a White House Press Corps question.

The receivers on the Springfield Inc.'s are cast, USGI's are forged. Much stronger. For half the price from the Civilian Markmanship Program (CMP), you get a better rifle.

Bbart.223>> The Garand does not use stripper clips, it uses en-bloc clips. No need to strip the rounds from the clips, just shove the loaded clip in and go!

OR a M-1 garand, which over a 100 rounds shoots faster, as it's quicker to reload, has better range & is available for FAR less $$$$$$$.

I like the idea of having a Garand and a M1A and I certainly can't argue about the difference in the money. Especially when writing about the magazines needed for the M1A. Those are running around $50 a piece. There really isn't that much of a difference between range and I think the CMP Garands need a lot of work to compete with a out of the box M1A. Quicker to reload can go to the M1A easily. You don't have to dismount from the shoulder to load a M1A and that's ignoring the smaller amount of mag/clip changes. I can also find more surplus 7.62 before I can find a military supplier of 30-06. It's close but the edge is to the 7.62. I'm also finding more 7.62 brass on the ground much more than 30-06.

I don't have a thousand some odd dollars sitting around, mostly.

My current project is a Czech vz24 bolt-action 8mm mauser rifle from 1937 that I bought surplus and I'm in the process of restoring.

Cosmoline sucks.

20 round mags aren't available to me in this godforsaken state, not even pre-ban ones.

You cannot transfer pre-ban items here anymore.

And I'd rather have the AR-15 because the smaller caliber .223 has much less recoil than a .30-06 or .308 and thus is better for (accurate) high speed fire.

I'm preparing a vz24 bolt-action in 8mm for the stronger stuff.

In a fully automatic rifle, I'd agree with you. In a semi, I'd rather have the .308.

True, but you can really get a decent rate of fire with the AR-15 clones I've shot before, and it then becomes a bit of a problem.

Of course, the still existing 30 and 40 round pre-ban M16 magazines that you can use with an AR-15 don't hurt much either- it's the 9mm vs. .45 debate but for rifles.

I forgot they cost that much.

The poor man's .308 is the FN. The mags are something like 9 dollars used. Then, you're in californification again.

There's a cleaner based on citrus juice. It has a lovely orange smell to it and it hates cosmoline. See if you can find some.

I have a Yugo Mauser that was bathed in cosmoline. It didn't take any time at all to clean it with the orange stuff. The Yugo's are also in mint condition.

The H&K G-3, with new semi auto reciever, and the similar CETME, are also pretty good. Different kind of action, and pretty heavy, but very accurate. Magazines for those two interchange, and the overall designs are very similar. CETME is the older design and generally has wood furniture, while the G-3 is strictly a "black gun" (although green furniture is avaiable)

I've read that Purple Power takes cosmo right off of the wood too, but you shouldn't use it on the barrel. Is the orange stuff metal-safe? My other choice is standard gun cleaner and about 6,000 cleaning patches, it looks like.

I didn't have a problem with the metal.

It's only a citrus acid base. What I liked about it was it didn't really dissolve the gunk. It went underneath and I was able to pull lumps of the stuff off in one wipe.

There are more than a few rifles that I bought where I shot them once and then stored them. I cleaned the bore and the action before shooting and didn't worry about removing every little bit of oil and cosmolene. That Yugo had to be cleaned completely. There was so much cosmolene on it that the sights were buried.
