On the other hand, it can be argued that the purpose of sex is for procreation. If you are not trying to have kids, then by definition you are a pervert. (Pardon me whilst I don my asbestos armor. Okay...done. Flame away.)

That is the purpose with animals, not humans, otherwise there would be cycles of fertility like in animals. Women don't go into "heat" like female animals.
God made us different for recreation not merely creation.

In Catholic teaching, sex inside of the marital state is for two primary purposes, procreation (the first purpose) and marital comfort and fidelity (the second, and complimentary purpose). Therefore, infertile couples can still marry and enjoy the marital act (and recall, sometimes "infertile" couples end up with miracle children, miracles happen!).

Whoa! What are you, Ben Franklin? Sex is fun, my man. We only live once. Deny yourself this natural urge and in time, your (insert name of body part here) will explode.

If you are not trying to have kids, then by definition you are a pervert. Well, this sin is forgiven in a mediated marriage.

On the other hand, it can be argued that the purpose of sex is for procreation. If that were the only reason, we'd be like most animals, only interested in sex, male and females alike, near the time when the female is ovulating. We aren't like that, in fact we are probably less like that than any other creature that walks, swims, or flies the earth, and so there must be another purpose. Some have speculated that it's to help maintain the male/female bond during the really long time it takes for humans to be raised to something approximating maturity. Makes sense to me.

A bunch of guy friends were hanging out and we started talking about this subject. One of the guys said, "It takes me two months to find out that I've been cut off".
I still laugh every time I think about that.

Proverbs exhorts men to remain entranced "with the wife of your youth, may your fount continue to be blessed by her". Doesn't sound like sex is merely for procreation now does it, or would you rather take your arguement up with God?
