It's been a crappy paper for years, and not just because of the liberal bias. Their entire metro section has been a rip-off of the day before's NY post for a long time now. Plus, their regular news is full of inaccuracies. The liberal bias has existed not just because they are liberals, but also because it masks factual errors by turning them into opinion. Hopefully, this will get people to finally recognize that.

I wonder if this exercise in 'journalistic integrity' is actually a cover for other objectives.

They just raised their prices (from 75 cents to $1) and they have declined in sales another 5% recently. At the same time, Murdoch's New York Post has gained much more than that (at 25 cents per paper) and is scooping up the younger (~25-40) readers who are the prime advertising targets.

Maybe they're going to take a more conservative tack in order to compete with WSJ (steady numbers of readers and demographics) and with the Post.

This is a lot like the battle between FNC and ABCNNBCBS. Murdoch on the attack everywhere with news organizations oriented toward the key advertising demographics and with a conservative slant.

The Slimes may be trying to save its bacon and might be just slamming down on the worst abusers to knock the rest of the staff into line. Having a work slowdown is the protest from their liberal cadre of reporters and staff.

Who cares about this story of tiny significance?

I want a progress report on the NY Times and Martha Burk joint campaign to have the Augusta National Golf Club admit female members. It is easy to understand how the editors may have been justifiably distracted from maintaining minimal accuracy and basic journalistic integrity. Come on! Important things first!!

We need to look at the big picture folks. Let's allow the good folks at the NY Times to continue on their honorable mission.

The NY Times held a special forum for its employees on the Blair matter. It offered employees an op to e-mail questions ahead of time or give feedback after the forum. I'd say the Times, corporate givers to Planned Parenthood, are fair game for a E-FREEP FOCUS: forum@nytimes.com
