Robert E. Lee Boy Scout Council, Richmond, VA, to be Renamed. More PC for the Boy Scouts...
WRVA Radio ^ | 5/13/03 | VMI70

Posted on 05/13/2003 6:17:13 AM PDT by VMI70

This past weekend, my son and I went on his troop's annual father-son hike. His troop is one of many in the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which is headquartered in Richmond, VA.

On Sunday, during the church service at the end of the hike, it was announced that the Council directors had voted to change its name from The Robert E. Lee Council, which has been in use for many decades, to something else.

This morning, the news broke on the local radio station: WRVA 1140 AM, Richmond's Morning News with Jimmy Barrett.

The Democratic Party did not cease to exist after the Civil War and it did not begin yesterday. The treasonous tendencies within the Democratic Party go back to the Civil War and beyond.

The Democrats have always taken that to heart. Remember, the Confederates were Democrats.

The Emancipation Proclamation was based on the Confiscation Act of 1862, which stated that slaves held by rebels "shall be forever free." Therefore, it could not apply to slaves in loyal states.

Just checked the poll:
http://1140wrva.com/morningshow.html

Question of the Day:
How do you feel about Robert E. Lee being dropped by the boy scouts?
It's OK by me. 4.90 %
It's just another politically correct mistake. 95.10 %

It's too bad they don't show the number of votes.

Why don't you and your neighbors get together and vote that it is agreed that the federal government is to turn over some nearby instalation to you?

The citizens of Montana have agreed not to let them buy any more of their state.

You seemed to be well informed about Southern history.

Are you a professor at a Southern college for any chance?

Professor Papa is the most published historical revisionist at FRU.

"These United States have never been ..."

Nice to see the correct form of the verb being used.

So, in areas where Lincoln could have freed slaves, he didnt. In areas where he had no control, he ordered slaves to be freed.

If President Lincoln had the power to free the slaves up North all on his own then why bother with the 13th Amendment?

N-S, the reason Lincoln did not free slaves in northern states is that the Emancipation Proclamation was based on the Confiscation Act of 1862, which stated that slaves held by rebels "shall be forever free." Therefore, it could not apply to slaves in loyal states.

Let's go with Robert C (Sheets) Byrd. The Dems would be happy with that.

This whole anti-confederate jihad has gotten way past the point of being ridiculous. The Civil War happened, slavery was a fact, trying to erase it all from public view isn't going to change it.

yea,yea,yea.
Fitz Lee also "violated" his commission and
joined the CS Army. Also, about 35 years later he was wearing a blue uniform as MAJ.GEN,U.S. VOLS. in Spanish-
American War.

Why should the remaining states take on the debt incurred in the name of all?

Of course, nobody will ask the obvious question: Walt, what in the Sam Hell was the Union doing with a debt in the first place?

Did Lincoln send a delegate to the CSA to negotiate the debt? Did he meet with CSA delegates to dicsuss proper handling of federal lands within the borders of the CSA?

No, he raised an army and invaded.

Post all the lofty rhetoric about preserving the union that you'd like, even Lincoln knew it to be impossible. Coersion of the states was no less destructive to the idea of Union than was secession. Only the cohesion provided of a common enemy would heal the division set on by either coersion or secession, and thanks to Lincoln we had both.

VMI, as for Baghdad Bob/Whiskeypapa hijacking another thread, apologies.

predicated on the perpetutation of slavery.

Slavery, like it or not, was constitutional and had been protected by the courts as such for nearly 100 years. Had slavery been an issue, the southern states would have had recourse through the existing justice system.

The power of taxation, which Lincoln had made clear would be used to subjugate southern agrarian interests to those of northern manufacturing, was a constitutionally delegated power of the national government.

Avoiding abuse of that power required secession.
