Bush has said he would sign this bill if it gets to his desk. Tom DeLay says it has no chance of passing. But, I don't think Bush should have said this because it maght persuade some republicans to vote for it if the president is behind it. This could be the one issue that prevents Bush from a second term. You just do not want to mess with a voting block of 5 million + voters. he NRA is not the only pro-gun organization.

This was a mistake to say, but I'll cut the man some slack. George W. was given bad advice on this. The bill won't reach his desk.

This bill, if passed, will come to the President's desk barely one month before the general election; what a "poison pill" that would be.

When has he said he'd sign THIS? He did say he'd sign a simple renewal, but I don't recall him ever saying he'd support any expansion.

Bush only said he would reauthorize the current law if it reaches his desk. He has left himself wiggle room to refuse it if there is one more ink spot in it than before.

And if he signs this expanded abomination that makes all our guns illegal, then I too will join the Bush bashers. I will get active and let my Congress critters know how I feel about this, and I won't slip into depression and negativity at this point. There are oh so many ways this rancid law can die before it reaches the President's desk...

Guns are not really my issue, Im more into monetary and social subjects. But it doesn't take a genius to figure out where the gun grabbers want to take us. I don't belong to the NRA or the GOA, but if they pass this law, MANY of us are going to be highly upset. The Republicans had better watch it. Your 5 million estimate is too low, IMHO.

Y'all don't get it yet, do you?

George W. Bush was for RKBA when he was Governor of Texas and needed Texas's governorship as a platform on which to run for president.

Now he's President of the United States, and he's working for a different audience now. His rich GOP backers don't like peasants owning guns any more than the frustrated Neo-Stalinists of the Left do. They're going to do a deal to skin the Second Amendment, and the media are going to help. Watch.
