Md. Researcher: Women Murdered Due To Pregnancy Some States Have 'Double Homicide' Laws When Pregnant Mothers Are Killed
BALTIMORE -- In California, Scott Peterson is preparing to go to trial for murdering his pregnant wife, Laci. It's a disturbing story, but apparently not all that unusual.
WBAL-TV 11 NEWS anchorwoman Donna Hamilton reported that the No. 1 cause of death for pregnant women has nothing do to with medicine.
Research: Homicide Kills More Pregnant Women
A fertilizer salesman, an actor and a former NFL football player have all been accused of killing their wives or girlfriends during pregnancy -- or because of it, Hamilton reported.
"We found that homicide was the leading cause of death for the pregnant women, but the fifth leading cause of death for the women who hadn't been pregnant," said Isabelle Horon, a Maryland Department of Health researcher.
Horon's study found that one in five pregnant women or new mothers who died were homicide victims. A few years ago in Boston, a 14-year-old pregnant girl was stabbed and buried alive, and police said the person responsible was her teenage boyfriend.
A decade earlier, Carol Stuart was allegedly shot to death by her husband on the way home from a birthing class.
"The most common perpetrator of homicide during pregnancy is a husband, or a boyfriend, or an ex-husband or an ex-boyfriend," said Jacquelyn Campbell, who is with the John Hopkins School of Nursing.
Campbell is a domestic violence expert who said these cases are most often the end result of ongoing violence.
"Often times, it is when she says 'I'm going to leave you' -- often times because of the abuse -- that she ends up getting killed," Campbell said.
To prevent that, several health care groups recommend screening all pregnant women for domestic violence.(my bold) But a 1999 survey found that less than one in five health providers actually do so.
Nearly two dozen states have "double homicide" laws that allow prosecutors to seek two murder convictions when a pregnant woman is killed. But those states differ on how old the fetus must be at the time of death for that second murder charge to apply.
hmmmmm....
hmmmmm....
Hmmmmm.....indeed. If you believed this story, you'd be rushing out to defend every pregnant woman you saw from some alleged crazy not-wanna-be father. It would look like WBAL-TV 11 NEWS is trying to drum up some business.
this, however, doesn't surprise me a bit...
Science, in fact, has answered this problem long ago, yet the judicial system has chosen to ignore the solution for social engineering purposes. Science already assumes an individual human being comes to exist at fecundation. Science even uses this truth as a fundamental axiom upon which many scientific tests are based for validity, testing the individual for things like Downs Syndrome and rH factor and anemia, long before a full complement of organs compliments the individual human being begun at conception.
We are about to be deluged with political debate where one side will be arguing for exploitative utilization of embryonic individual human beings (that the exploitation is planned and deemed valid affirms the underlying axiom of individual human being at earliest age) on the grounds that embryos are not yet human beings, while the other side will be arguing that exploitation of early human life (whether a being yet or not, they choose to avoid) is degrading of all human life. The solution/end for these debates is easily found if the debaters would just acknowledge what science has already accepted as the fundamental truth upon which their scientific exploitations are based. Truth is, the scientists want the illogical ambiguity to continue because they have secretly decided that cannibalism as they wish to practice it is okay, but they don't want the people to see that the exploitations are in fact cannibalism.
Each indiviaul alive today began their lifetime continuum at their unique conception. Each individual alive today has been an alive individual human being since their unique conception. Very many alive individuals today had their individual life checked for genetically related disorders long before their lifetime continuum reached the age of having distinct and complete organs, but the fact that medical people tested them so early in their lifetime and took the test results to be valid for them as an individual human being already is testimony that individual human being status begins at conception, regardless of the arbitrary definitions applied speciously for debate purposes wooing civilization toward 'enlightened cannibalism.'
Blindly slaughtering our fellow individual human beings while they were in the womb, for lo these many deacdes, has brought us to this 'felicitous' juncture in civilization's gestational stage, where we are manipulated by lies to look forward with eager anticipation the exploitative use of fellow individual human beings, to cure and sustain we older individual human beings.
We have scientists on FR that know the truth but who have chosen to promote the lie in order to argue for their favored application of cannibalism. I would be less insutled if these intelligent scientists would be honest and admit they know the fundamental axiom of embryological science but they believe there is some utilitarian 'greater good' to be achieved by ignoring the cannibalism of earliest individual human lives. Lies from scientists have always been offensive to me. Scientists who lie are, to fellow scientists, charlatans worthy of scorn.
Welpers, around here we've been herding 'em into the high school football fields ever since that WBAL-TV 11 report done come out. Fourteen of my cousins/uncles/brothers/whatever (half of 'em had to print Xs) signed up to be inspectors of the pregnant wimmen, but the illegals beat 'em out as usual. But we rely on our local news to keep us informed.
I wonder what the relative numbers are for husbands vs. boyfriends. Not that the crime is any less heinous, but I believe I have read about the high probability of child abuse by live in boyfriends vs husband/fathers and wonder if it generalizes to this situation also.
We currently have a high profile case here in St. Louis, with one of the Rams (On stand, Faulk denies beating his ex-girlfriend) accused of beating the ex-girlfriend "mother of his children". Not homicide, but not pretty either.
Hmmm is right. I do not like those laws that somehow perceive women as sinless in domestic violence cases, with feminists predating on families having mere stress disputes during or after pregnancy, yet paroting them around as potential murderers. Yes sin is great in society but hospital screenings are not sinless either.
It just makes it worse when nurses start acting like cops and check whether my car's horn and blinkers work before they put the baby in the car. Also they trashed us because our car seat was over 5 years old and did not hence meet safety standards. They gave us one free that did not seem any safer nor comfortable.... go figure.
