Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Infinite Freedom, formerly Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the ongoing war on terror, and the related events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
I haven't seen him since about the day before President Bush's wonderful and awesome landing on the carrier. I've been meaning to ask you if you'd seen him. I don't think he's been doing any reports and am not sure if he's still there or back in the states.
I didn't catch if he was referring to Navy or Air Force enlistments. Anyone heard anything on this?

The "flight suit" landing?

Cdn. may have been involved in Saudi bomb plot
OTTAWA Canadian security officials are looking into a report that a Canadian may have been involved in a terrorist plot in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities say they foiled plans by suspected terrorists to carry out attacks in the kingdom, and seized a large cache of weapons and explosives in Riyadh on Tuesday.
I am just reading your account of the ABC clip you heard.
I don't suppose the report included why the dead bodies were buried in shallow graves on the grounds of this saintly compound of compassion?
ABC = Clymers extraordinaire (pardon my language)
Suspected Arab extremists being hunted by Saudi security forces in the Kingdom.
RIYADH, 8 May 2003 A group of Arab extremists who had been planning terrorist attacks in the Kingdom is being hunted down in a densely populated district of the capital following a shootout with security forces raiding its hide-out, according to the Interior Ministry.
And please don't forget if you saw the Al Jezeera tape of the American mutilated soldiers and the soldiers that were shot in the head and killed was in a hospital. Some grotesque guy with hospital surgical covers over his shoes and wearing surgical gloves was there grinning in attendence amongst several others wearing dress shoes.
The Restoration of American Awe [American Enterprise Institute]----snip----Awe of American power is, of course, a perishable commodity, both inside Iraq and, perhaps more important, elsewhere in the Middle East. Washington can certainly diminish the respect and acquiescence its military victory has gained by using its power unwisely or, more likely, failing to use its power when it should.
----snip--------
Only a few years ago, it was inconceivable for most people to imagine an American liberation of Iraq. September 11 and President Bush's force of will have forever altered the intellectual map of the Muslim Middle East. A second "liberal age" may now be coming to the region. It was perhaps coming in any case, but the events since 9/11 have surely accelerated the process. It is important to remember that the first "liberal age" wasn't pretty. But it was a vastly more appealing time than what came after. With the imminent arrival of nuclear arms to clerical Iran, it's hard to imagine the second "liberal age" coming too soon. A race is on. It's in America's interest wisely and forcefully to speed its arrival.
The President, handsome and manly in his hi-tech flight suit and slightly proud swagger was pure SIZZLE. What young man didn't conjure up dreams of himself being in similar uniform or experiencing the ecstasies of victory?
On the other hand, Private Jessica's capture and injuries was just steak, rather raw and grey. The visuals of her condition probably didn't stimulate any females to run right over to the recruitment centers to sign up.

London mayor compares Bush to Saddam
The mayor of London has launched a blistering attack on United States President George W Bush, comparing the White House administration to the government of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
In comments broadcast on BBC television news, nayor Ken Livingstone said Mr Bush was "not the legitimate president" of the US.
Ken sees red in fusillade at Bush
Ken Livingstone's efforts to woo American tourists back took an unusual turn on Thursday - a vitriolic attack on George W. Bush.
Before an audience of schoolchildren, the London mayor lambasted the US president over not only the Iraq war, but also his business deals and alleged draft-dodging.
"George Bush is just about everything that is repellent in politics," Mr Livingstone said. "I think George Bush is the most corrupt American president since Harding in the Twenties. He is not the legitimate president."
Take THAT KKK Byrd!!!
United by their desire for regime change in Iran and encouraged by the overthrow of the Iraqi regime, exiled Iranian monarchists are developing an alliance in Washington with influential neo-conservatives as well as Pentagon officials and Israeli lobby groups.
Analysts say supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the Virginia-based son of the last Shah of Iran, see a role model in Ahmad Chalabi, head of the Iraqi National Congress who is backed by powerful figures in the Pentagon as a future leader in Baghdad committed to a secular, pro-western democracy.
His anti-war views are well-known. But rehearsing them now - and with such force - may strain relations with Mr Bush's best friend, Tony Blair.
Rafid Hamid, who makes his living selling tea on the pavements of Baghdad, helped topple Saddam Hussein last month. Seeing his neighbours struggle to climb on to Saddam's statue in Paradise Square, he fetched a ladder from his lock-up, allowing his friends to clamber up.
The destruction of the statue, relayed around the world by crews encamped in the Palestine Hotel opposite, provided the most symbolically important moment of the war and sent a signal to the Iraqi people that Saddam had lost power.
Cor-rupt: The sound that a fart makes on a brisk foggy morning in the Soho district of London.
