U.S. Retains 2,000 Prisoners in Iraq, Some ForeignWASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. forces have released about 7,000 prisoners taken in the Iraq war, but still hold 2,000, including an undisclosed number of Iraqis and foreign fighters deemed 'unlawful combatants,' officials said on Thursday.
Designation as an 'unlawful combatant' deprives a detainee of some rights accorded to prisoners of war under international agreements, including the right of release at a war's end.

This morning on the radio they played a report from someone on Peter Jennings show last night (what is that, World News Tonight? I can never remember) regarding PFC Lynch. They were criticizing the men who rescued her. Basically saying that it wasn't as risky as CENTCOM would like everyone to believe and that our troops traumatized the doctors and patients. It was so bad that it was laughable.
One of the doctors was saying that he was scheduled to set her broken leg the next day (but she had been there for several days already), that our troops kicked in doors for intensive care patients, that another doctor was upset because a soldier pointed a gun at him, and that they had to "sell precious medicine to repair the damange the Americans caused." This was the funniest part. This same doctor said, "If they had just asked us where she was we would have told them. They didn't have to cause so much damage."
It was so ridiculous!!

I dont think that W ever thought that the flight suit would be such an "image builder" .. nor that the flight / landing would be such a big deal to his distractors.
In fact in his modesty I think he thought the flight suit was perhaps a negative... bulky equipment, drab color. Little did he know that we who swoon over him daily would go bonkers over him dressed in Big Birds costume--yet alone a "well fitted" hmmmm.. suit that projects an image of power
I personally would LOVE to see him in Naval Officer White Dress....pant, pant
I dont feel his motivation for the flight was photo ops 2004. The "adventuring spirit/always a pilot" mentality was prime .. in addition to mingling, thanking troops. He probably wanted to go to Iraq. but was vetoed.

I have a job interview to be a 911 dispatcher soon. My brother just gave me some good advice:
"Display the calm confidence and conviction of your decisions that George Bush does and you will do just fine!" Great advice, ha?

I think that probably like every other manly man in America- he just thought it would be really neat. I don't know any man (except for Byrd, Waxman and thier cronies, but I don't know if they qualify as men) who didn't think that the Presidents visiting the aircraft carrier wasn't just the coolest thing.

It had to do with Pres. position that assault rifles should be legislated against I think. I got phone call and didn't hear it all though

THe Pres would look spectacular in any military dress uniform. That he looks so good in the drab color, bulky suit.....is icing on the cake.

Drivers wait as scores of cars line up at a gas station in Baghdad, Iraq, Thursday, May 8, 2003. Although Iraq is known for its oil and has the world's second largest proven reserves, residents in this chaotic capital are spending long hours every day in a frustrating search for fuel.
Iraqis Battle Long Lines in Gas Search
BAGHDAD, Iraq - When Salah Alwiha got to the gas station, the line snaked around the block. Seven hours later, when he finally pushed his car to the front, the news was enough to make him scream: The pumps were empty.
Although Iraq has the world's second-largest proven oil reserves after Saudi Arabia, residents of this chaotic capital are spending long, sweaty hours in the hammering sun every day in a frustrating and often futile search for fuel.

Speaking of Peter Jennings, it was something on earlier this week that indicated that Jennings had done a CNN/Iraq dilly. A gentleman was reporting on one of the cable news programs that Jennings wanted him to not report the full truth about something that happened during the 1st Gulf War.

I don't remember the incident about Gulf War 1, but I do remember hearing that he changed the wording to a story to make it sympathetic to a group of Marxists.

Investors Sought for Planned U.S. Muslim TV StationNEW YORK (Reuters) - Muslim businessmen have begun an effort to launch the first English-language Muslim television channel in North America, and the founder of the company said on Tuesday they hoped to have it on air in 2004.
Bridges TV will emphasize news, sports, sitcoms, advice shows, children's programming and movies geared to American Muslims, said Muzzammil Hassan, an upstate New York banker who started the company on the prodding of his wife, Aasiya.
