Conservative Republicans in New Jersey are running a slate of real conservative candidates against the liberal NJ Republicans throughout the state. Many of you know me as a long-time FReeper (with a 3-digit FR id number). I also ran for NJ Assembly 4 years ago.
Now, I am campaign manager for Jay Schainholz, who is running for State Senate in District 38. We have a campaign office set up. If you live in northern Jersey, we could really use your help.
I am looking for volunteers for a number of campaign tasks every day, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Please FReepmail me with your phone numbers, and I'll contact you.
You can read about us at RepublicansForConservativeLeadership.com and join our team!

Ziva,
Please don't forget me, LonePalm.
I am running for Town Council in Ocean Township, Monmouth County. Our election is Tuesday the 13th of May. Even though this election is non-partisan, all of our team members are Republicans and three of us are county committee members. We can use all the help we can get.

We also have "non-partisan" government in my town. There are a number of council and mayoral candidates running on our slate, as well, but it only works in partisan elections, like the primary.
LonePalm, feel free to talk about your campaign, but it might help you a little more if you reveal the name(s) you want people to vote for. :)

This is to say that we do not agree with the idea of nepotism, but Bennett is hardly the worst of the offenders.
The Bergen Record Newspaper did an expose on this whole sordid affair over the weekend. It was reported last week that Assemblyman Guear had hired his wife for $50,000 a year, and here is the rest of the list:

LonePalm, feel free to talk about your campaign, but it might help you a little more if you reveal the name(s) you want people to vote for. :)For a cleaner Ocean Town Council,
Vote for the entire Clean Ocean Team, lines 1 - 5.
The Clean Ocean Team - Desmarais, Greenwood, Morley, Rodman and Verrilli
Open Government, Open Decisions, Open Spaces, Open for All"
The New Team for Ocean is really the Old Team. Our former mayor is awaiting sentencing in Federal Court after pleading guilty to three felonies. We are expecting more indictments but not sure when they will come down. Three of the current members of the town council wisely decided not to run for re-election.

The following was mailed to Independents and Democrats in Ocean Township, NJ on Wednesday 7 May 2003. Anyone want to guess why they declined to mail it to Republicans?
Front
Back
Now exactly who introduced divisive party politics into Ocean Township?
The hypocracy here is breath-taking. Here is a little background.
Less than a week before we filed our petitions. I was in Town Hall to get some voter registration forms for our new neighbors across the street. When he hears my name, Bill Larkin comes bouncing out of his office to introduce himself. The week before David Hiers had left a message on my home answering machine asking me to get in touch with them. I apologized for not being able to get back to them because I had been out of state on work related travel. The mayor wanted to know if there were any County Committee positions available or anything they could do with the Republican Club.
I explained that we would be getting a Republican Club going this summer and that there were only 5 positions available on the county committee. It would depend on which precinct he lived in. It turns out that the CC positions for their precinct, 17, were already filled by Jon and Joan Desmarais. He has not contacted me since.
I did call Larkin, Hiers, and Siciliano to express my happiness with the flyer. They weren't home but I did leave a message with their wives. I offered to buy any remaining flyers that they might have and pass them out to anyone who didn't get one in the mail. They haven't called me back. My offer still stands.
BTW - Larkin, Hiers, and Schepiga are Republicans, Chavis is an Independent, and Siciliano is a Democrat.

Friends, please forward this as widely as possible, even to people not in the 26th district,
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/districtnumbers.asp they might know someone who is! Webber's e-mail address is
http://www.WebberForSenate.com in case anyone wants to contact his campaign.
I received the following under the subject line, "Jay Webber deserves our support":
A private e-mail from his personal account not affiliated with any organization.
A message from Father Peter West, Priest of the Archdiocese of Newark
Dear Friends in New Jersey's 26th Legislative District:
Some very serious lies about pro-life senate candidate Jay Webber have been brought to my attention. It is a disgrace that those lies are being told by Bob Martin, who takes a paycheck from a Catholic university while supporting pro-aborts and attacking pro-lifers.
I speak to correct the record with facts:
Jay Webber has served as an attorney for the Legal Center for the Defense of Life, where I sit on the advisory board. The Legal Center is a not-for-profit, pro-life organization with a proven track record of defending life at all stages. We are proud to have Jay on our team.
Bob Martin, on the other hand, was a key figure in bringing partial-birth abortion advocate Christine Todd Whitman to Seton Hall University to receive a "medal of honor" in 1998, just months after she blocked New Jersey's ban on partial birth abortions. A photograph (under the headline, "Amid Furor, Whitman Gets Seton Hall Students' Award) that ran in the Bergen Record on November 17, 1998 shows Bob Martin standing with Whitman applauding while Whitman slapped New Jersey's Catholics and other pro-lifers in the face at the award ceremony. Other recipients of this disgraceful award have included Hillary Clinton and other leading pro-aborts.
Jay Webber consistently supports pro-life legislation. Among such legislation is the call to eliminate "wrongful life" and "wrongful birth" lawsuits in New Jersey, where pro-abortion lawyers sue for the so-call right of parents to kill retarded children and children with physical ailments.
Bob Martin, on the other hand, has given campaign contributions to Wilfredo Caraballo. Caraballo is a Democratic legislative crony who works with Bob Martin at Seton Hall and in New Jersey's legislature. Caraballo is so bad, he actually voted to block parental notification for minors seeking abortions. This is the kind of man Bob Martin supports.
I have seen Bob Martin's direct mail attacks on Jay Webber. Simply put, they are gross distortions, and some are blatant lies. Here are some more facts:
Jay Webber is not a "trial lawyer." He is a lawyer. So is Bob Martin.
Jay Webber never wrote a check to Bob Torricelli's campaign. Some attorneys in the firm where he works did. The only candidate in this race who has written a check to a Democratic candidate is Bob Martin.
Jay Webber is not responsible for the liberal opinions of New Jersey's Supreme Court justices. Jay Webber was a law clerk. Bob Martin, on the other hand, voted to confirm some of New Jersey's liberal justices to the positions where they sit today. He actually voted to confirm 6 of 7 justices.
These are the facts. They are not opinions. Thank God for the First Amendment and our rights to talk about the facts.

I don't see the problem of hiring family members to work in their offices if they're actually doing work for the Assembly members. If they're just collecting a paycheck, or getting paid a salary that is way over the going rate, that's a different story. Members should be free to hire whoever they think would do the best job for them, family member or not.
