HARRISBURG -- The Clinton administration's creation of a 1.8 million acre national monument in southern Utah was marked by "deceit" and "chicanery" - even outright lies, according to U.S. Sen. Robert Bennett, a Utah Republican.
Utah's largely GOP congressional delegation and its governor were kept in the dark until just before the announcement on Sept. 18, 1996. Members of Congress apparently were misled about the supposed lack of any maps of the project four days before the announcement.

From the article:
At a March 26 state hearing, Sen. White grilled McGinty on the effort by the White House to conceal the announcement from the Utah congressional delegation. White also hammered away at a campaign contribution from environmental groups that apparently hinged on the deal going through.
This Mary Jo White sounds terrific. Remember how things got done with this crew. As Johnny Chung informed us, "White House like subway. You put token in."
Know-nothing skunks like "greasepaint" pop around from thread to thread just to leave their stench.
I still get believe PA elected this creep ... We are soooooooo screwed
Of course Gore was behind a tree in the forest at that moment after drinking too much ice tea, so he didn't know about the money.
"The question is, did the Clinton administration know they were making Indonesia rich? How could they NOT know?
Oh, they knew all right.
It looks like some consequences may accrue to McGinty and other bit players, but nothing happens to the Clintons. I've been following this story for years and I keep waiting for something to happen which might cause the public to wake up about the Clintons and this sordid tale. 9-11 apparently wasn't it. I'm not worried, other shoes will drop.
