"Kent Hovind...."
not the same Kent Hovind who is described here:
http://www.skepticnews.com/articles/02/09/27/0232220.shtml by any chance?
Not the same Kent Hovind who was arrested for assault, battery, and burglary on August 15, 2002, and who is accused of evading income taxes via lying and abuse of bankruptcy courts?
Say it isn't so, Joe....
To: Dimensio
Kent Hovind..... Surely, this isn't the same Kent Hovind as is described below:
Hovind claims to possess a masters degree and a doctorate in education from Patriot University in Colorado. According to Hovind, his 250-page dissertation was on the topic of the dangers of teaching evolution in the public schools. Formerly affiliated with Hilltop Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patriot University is accredited only by the American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions, an accreditation mill that provides accreditation for a $100 charge. Patriot University has moved to Alamosa, Colorado and continues to offer correspondence courses for $15 to $32 per credit. The school's catalog contains course descriptions but no listing of the school's faculty or their credentials. Name It and Frame It lists Patriot University as a degree mill .
Say it isn't so, Joe....

If you do not have an inborn sense of what is good, why is it important to decide between God and Satan? Dodge.

Not so fast.
The purpose of the posting was to explain my point, that you had missed -- what, three times?
Do you understand the point, now? And how the "atheism" bit shoots wide of it?

You want to do "dialogue," you pick up your end of the log.OK, here goes. All that we mortals are capable of understanding as good or evil can be traced back to pleasure and pain. Pleasure and pain are not as simple as they appear at first, because there are near and long term consequenses for actions. So even for an individual, there are trade offs between what feels good now and what results in the greatest long term pleasure.
Morality also deals with pleasure and pain, but focuses on groups rather than individuals. there are moral codes that deal with families, gangs, tribes, nations, species, and the totality of living things. Take your pick.
I am not dodging the problem of specific rules. I believe that except for a few easy situations, most of the things we do in life have indeterminant consequenses. If we focus on intentions we run into the paving stones for the road to hell. If we focus on following the law, we find it is possible to twist the intent of the law 180 degrees.

Yeah Man Im just glad Hovind guy isnt debating:
Richard Dawkins author of
Religion's misguided missiles and
The Blind Watchmaker: Why the Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design.(which is required reading on some campuses)
Or
Peter Singer who is the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University. He has taught at the University of Oxford, New York University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of California at Irvine, and La Trobe University. Singer was also the founding father of the International Association of Bioethics.

Well, js, that's interesting, I appreciate the effort, and maybe that'd make a good topic for discussion sometime.
But I think, in all the excitement, that you've completely lost track of the conversation flow.
I said, And that makes a difference some here find personally terrifying.
You retorted, I suppose it would be terrifying to believe in a God who punishes people for their thoughts. It may be rational to fear such a God, but how does it follow that He is good?
And I asked (as I ask again), Define "good."

Well, people have memories of Last Thursdayism that extend beyond Last Thursday but they, like all such memories, were created along with the universe.

Oh, come on. If you really want to play this game than throw your theory out there and see what happens. Ive been trying to keep this thing humorous because - that is all it is
Maybe you can start by truthfully answering How long has this theory of Last Thursdayism existed and has been asked of others?
If not just let it go

Kent Hovind, the man who claimed that there are only 1041 electrons in the known universe? Wasn't it John Wheeler who once suggested that there was only one electron in the universe, but that there appeared to be more than one because it could travel through time? ;)
