Sorry, MMM. You're WRONG!

Gun control advocates should fear the new concealed handgun law, but not for the reason that most people think. The law allows trained, law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns for their protection, but despite claims that it is "radical" and "is really a conceal and kill bill," here is a prediction: A year from now Minnesota's newspapers will report that all the horror stories about letting citizens carry concealed handguns were wrong. The real loser will be gun control advocates' credibility.

And consider the two largest states with right-to-carry laws, Florida and Texas. During the 15 years after Florida's concealed-carry law took effect in October 1987, about 800,000 licenses were issued. Only 143 of these (two-hundredths of 1 percent) were revoked due to firearms-related violations.

I FEEL a need to have ready at hand the tools necessary to protect my life. Thia is the only life I have right now, and I'd kinda like to be able to hang on to it for a while.

Despite whatever fears some mewling liberal, spineless peice of offal may feel it necessary to project on everyone else.

True. I've had my CCW permit(not that I think I should really need one) from Pennsylvania, for about 8yrs. now. Fortunately, I have never needed to use it but it's nice knowing it's there. Sort of like having a spare tire for your car.

If you want off my ping-list, just let me know. conversely, FReepmail me if you want to be added. And my apologies for any redundant pings.

You can be as redundant as you like, just don't take me off your "break in new rifle" list.

"Many decide they "like" shooting and move on into some form of recreational use of firearms."

Shooting is a lot of fun. I compete in bullseye pistol and like to shoot in PPC. It is also a lot of satisfaction, when I can hit the X ring on target at 600 yards.

In general, it is easier to teach women how to shoot. It may well be because women are not under as much pressure over their egos.

Furthermore, it also seems that women have an easier time of dealing with the aftermath of a confrontation. It is probably, because women are not under the pressure to be able to physically repel their assailant. Women face the option their are weaker physically, and need the firearm to defend themselves.

I have an idea. Perhaps some people on FR with daughters should petition the GSUSA to establish a rifle shooting activity badge, much like the BSA has rifle shooting AND shotgun shooting merit badges.

Joe,

How will your ping list differ in content from the bang list? Will you ping on items not on the bang list?

The agenda of gun grabbers is never about 'safety' - it is ever and always about control.

10-4. I would much rather teach women than men. Women have no bad habits to overcome - haven't developed wrong techniques they must unlearn. Most men seem to believe gun handling is genetic.

I have had many couples take the introductory handling course, with the wife outshooting her husband under a slightly pressurized shoot-off.

Beyond this, women pay attention, do what they are shown, take instruction well. Many men don't pay attention, take the "yeah, yeah, I got it" approach, onlt to quickly demonstrate they didn't get it. I'll definitely take the women students every time.

And here I was thinking it was all about disarmament which is, in retrospect, in and of itself, a form of control in its own right.

BB,

Re:
"How will your ping list differ in content from the bang list? Will you ping on items not on the bang list?"

Good question. Being a working slob, I may or may not catch all the items that other folks do when they flag to the "*bang_list". Also, I will be using my discretion in flagging folks with my RKBA list -- not all articles flagged to the "*bang_list" will make the cut -- only the most pertinent articles will, so not to overload folks. If and when I do flag this manually maintained group, I will include the "*bang_list" if it has not already been pinged.

It is probably, because women are not under the pressure to be able to physically repel their assailant. Women face the option their are weaker physically, and need the firearm to defend themselves.

10-4. There is more to this story. Take a small or older man facing some burly slug who confronts him and has no weapon (or perhaps a knife.) If the small/older man is armed he may have to shoot his attacker to avoid serious injury or death.

If the person who used deadly force is a women, she will likely be given a pass by the grand jury. The man, however, may be indicted for use of "excessive force."

Being older and not that physically strong any longer I would not hesitate to fire - if the presence of the gun and a command to "stop - leave now" doesn't work. Yet doing so may cost me quite a bit of money in legal fees plus the threat of a conviction that might result in probation (likely no jail time) and a loss of my right to own guns. Opinions on this?
