[history]
Madonna is in trouble. Her American Life album drops from number 1 to about number 8 this week, selling a paltry 65,000 copies. That's down from 235,000 the first week.
Of course, the whole record business bottomed out last week, with the top 10 albums selling fewer than 750,000 copies. Rapper 50 Cent (search) regained first place, and two albums connected to American Idol did well enough to make the top five. Additionally, Cher (search) continues to astound with her greatest hits collection.

Cher (search) continues to astound with her greatest hits collection.Does this mean when I switch from AM (talk) to FM, I am going to have suffer that "Indian Song" again?

Madonna is basically the old, gap-toothed prostitute sitting in the front parlor of the whorehouse who isn't getting any anymore.

Not only is there still a Top 40 but Kasey Kasem (sic) still counts them down.

My sister told me to rent Swept Away. She said it is hilarious, unintentionally It is! I watched it on DVD, and howled through the whole thing.

Its even funnier than the Italian original? I guess Madonna managed the rare feat of making an English version seem better than the original - at least in terms of leaving you on your back splitting with laughter all the way through to the closing credits.

Great news and if next week the cd is in the 20's even better news, the only good CD this year has been Fleetwood Mac and Ringo Starr's new ones.

"Swept Away" didn't just "tank", as you say. "Swept Away" is now widely considered the worst film ever made in history, beating out "Plan 9 from Outerspace," and other such bilge (including "Santa Claus versus the Martians", I might add).

I actually enjoyed some of Madonna's earliest music, which was pretty good pop. But by the time her third or fourth album came out, she was just another skank. She's always been pretty skanky, IMHO, but at least she used to not take herself all that seriously. The moment she decided she was an ARTISTE is the moment that she became insufferable.

I guess Madonna managed the rare feat of making an English version seem better than the original - at least in terms of leaving you on your back splitting with laughter all the way through to the closing credits I watched both movies in the same day, right after the other. I really enjoyed the original "Swept Away," even though it had the communist politics in it. At least the characters had chemistry and motivation. In Madonna's version, the characters are just caricatures. It's supposed to be a sexy movie, but it falls flat on its face in that department and every other one. It's one of the most unintentionally funny movies I've ever seen.

Seal is a true music artist...and he can't even get a record deal now....that sums up the music industry for me...i'm pretty much through with it..just waiting for the next Steely Dan album :)

(Great to read a mention of Count Petofi in your tagline, by the way - talk about obscure references!)
Ah, another Dark Shadows fan! My fave storyline of the whole series - Thayer David really chews up the scenery as Petofi.

"My point is, how can anyone justify the music charts and airplay? If the white man is keeping the black man down, as we are accused of, then why is this "music" even on the air?"
I agree with you too. When I said,"What are you talking about?"I was using some Missouri hillbilly slang to agree with you.
