Why Do Conservatives So Quickly Abandon Their Own?
Cathryn Crawford
Posted on 05/04/2003 8:57:27 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford
Isn't it true that a lot of the bashing of Bill Bennett is simply due to the fact that conservatives naturally rejoice in the misfortunes of their own? The ability of the conservative movement to abandon their own people when they are even slightly attacked by the liberal/media establishment is absolutely astounding.
Why are conservatives so quick to judge their own? Are we afraid? Are we so afraid of being tainted by a scandal that we will so easily turn away at the first sight of blood?
This is a serious and long-term issue among conservatives that deserves to be adressed.

You were one of the few that got it correct last December about the Trent Lott affair too. Even if it was on the down low. :>)

Linda is also a terrific Conservative writer. I suppose she would tersely put what we are discussing into perspective as she sees it, contrast it to what's happening on the Left, and leave us feeling cautiously optimistic.

Some people " get it " prior to attaining adulthood ( 21 ) and some still haven't , at 65. Unfortunately, there are many FREEPERs who are political naifs, others that don't know history or politics, and some, who are CINOs and shall never " get it ", if they've been here from the beginning or not.
Dems don't " eat their own ". That's how and why they managed to retain the Senate so long and one reason why X42 was re-elected. Conservatives , of every stripe, need to become realists. Yes, for the most part, we are moral and easily offended by wrong doing. SDince Bennet isn't going to be running for anything and probably will not be chosen to serve in the government , in any capacity, his gambling is his problem and NOT " ours ".
Is he a hypocrite ? I don't know. If he has written about gambling, as something no one should engage in, then yes, he is, If he hasn't, then no, he isn't. Gambling is, unfortunately, legal, so he has committed no crime. I do NOT think that gambling is good, but since his family isn't collecting welfare, it's none of my business that he gambles.
The " moral outrage ", of the left, is a scam. This hype is just the continuation, by the left, to peel away Conservative voters, and we shouldn't fall for it.
Your parents did a good job. Do remember your mother, this coming Mother's Dat. :-)

Also with Santorum.
Do you think the reason is that Republicans are more likely to cut bait and cut their losses than the dims are?

Thank you. My relationship with my parents sometimes hangs by a slender thread, but they taught me some morals, anyway.
Oh, I probably shouldn't write that about my parents...I mean, disagreeing with them on things probably makes me immoral, right?

Yes, although I've been pleasantly surprised that Santorum hasn't endured it quite so badly as I expected.

We do here,as every December we have thread after thread about just that. LOL

I'm astounded at some conservatives blowing things out of all proportion. Whatever one thinks of Bill Bennett's gambling interest, the point is he's always been open about it. And its legal. Contrast that to Bill Clinton's committing perjury and shading the truth to avoid acknowledging what every one knew was a moral sin against his wife and against public morality. That was illegal. There's no parallel between both men's conduct. The Left's attempts at moral equivalence will coming to nothing. We conservatives have a duty not to aid and abet their loathsome politics of personal destruction.

Hmmmmmmmm ... well, if they are Liberals, then I take back what I said about them. If you are disagreeing with them, out of teenage angst, then you're wrong, but won't " get " that, until later. LOL

About disagreeing with parents? Amazing.
