"What is the last wire you can catch?" There are four arresting cables. The #4 was the last wire. Miss that one and you're a "bolter," which means that you've just done a touch-n-go and go around for another crack at it.
The Dems will no doubt point to this as evidence of The Dubya's callous disregard for safety.

Actually...it's not AF One, since it's a Navy plane.
The official designation was Naval One.

I was a surface line officer stationed on destroyers and frigates, so I never caught a wire. But I also never ran my ship into anything so I guess you can say I got passing grades on all my approaches.
To: MasterBlue
(Keep in mind, that ANY aircraft that contains the President, is Air Force One for that mission)That's what I thought, but earlier today they were calling it Navy 1. Does it change with the branch providing the transport?

That's a failing grade, ... No, the preferred wire is a three wire, but your grade depends on more than your wire. It includes your line-up and approach as well. Also certain conditions will perturb even a perfect approach and lead to catching another wire. A light S-3 with its large wing span tends to float as it crosses the deck. Floating from three to four is not uncommon.
The one you really dont want is the one wire. That means your short and more likely to ramp strike. You can also have a perfect landing and have the hook bounce over the wire, leading to a four or even a go around.

I bet that the crew never thought they would see Air Force One parked on their flight deck!! Air Force pilots won't land on anything that isn't concrete and 10,000 feet long. Real pilots fly Navy.

You can imagine Hollywood making a movie about this guy. You cannot imagine the same for Bill Clinton The irony is that both "Independence Day" and "Air Force One" were made when Clinton was in office. Bill claimed that the movies portrayed the president in a positive light because of his enthusiasm and competence as president. But it turns out that President Bush is the better antitype for the president-characters in those movies.

I bet that the crew never thought they would see Air Force One parked on their flight deck!! I think in this case it's Navy 1. When the president is in his chopper it's Marine 1. Either way I think your right about not thinking they'd ever see the presidents plane on their flight deck.
