President
Bush (news - web sites) lands in a U.S. Navy (news - web sites) S-3B Viking on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, in this image from video, Thursday, May 1, 2003, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. They indicate where you work on the carrier, what your crew assignment is (catapault, fire, etc).
That's my take as an Army officer guest of the Forrestal 30 yrs ago...LOL!
Some of my Navy brothers can offer better details, no doubt...

I can't help but wonder....did the pilot let GW take the controls at any point durring the flight? GW was, after all, a fighter pilot in the Air National Guard. I would imagine that he would be more qualified to take the controls than most past presidents!

To paraphrase the pilot episode of "JAG," too many pilots would be tempted to eject him over the Adriatic and forget where...

According to ABC news(?), Jennings said he had the stick most of the way out there.

I am sorry you can't watch this live. It's so exciting to see the joy on everyone's faces on that ship. The president is having the time of his life. I was able to watch the streaming video, and watched his speech tonight. Good Lord, they love him, don't they? I haven't been so proud of our CIC since Reagan said "tear down that wall, Mr. Gorbachev".
