You probably have another sort of spyware/ad-bot running in the background - get AdAware, or Spybot - Search & Destroy - both can be easily found on a google search.

Download and run ad-aware. Sounds like you got some kind of adware on your computer -- maybe the kids installed Kazaa or something?
Adaware can be downloaded here.

Sounds like spyware. Use Spybot Search and Destroy -- it works great and it is free.

Ditto on AdAware. I thought I had a pretty clean system and installed the thing, and it found no fewer than FIVE little cookies.

Popup's keep coming when FR up here also; does that function work when only one window is running?
So how do you stop them - even in other windows?
I've got "popnot.exe" (recommend by Kim Kommando's site; but I'm not convinced it's very effective....)

What type of pop-up ad is it?
It sounds as if some webpage has placed a cookie on your computer. Try cleaning out your cookies folder.

Spybot - Search & Destroy rocks. Talk about a great tool to remove the slime from your computer!

At one time I used Adaware, but several months ago they stopped updating it in order to work on a completely new version, so it could not detect the more recently developed spyware. Did they complete the new version?
I moved to Spybot when I found out they were not updating, and Spybot found a lot of spyware that Adaware missed. Plus, Spybot has some other nice capabilities.

I have the same aggravating problem. Every time I open my home page an extra browser opens with ads. I found the file folder...windows/system/adcache. However, whenever I delete it it immediately reappears in the same location. I heard someone saying it was an activex issue but I can't find the solution.

If you are getting that type of popup you should consider aquiring a router/firewall. If you already have one I would suggest locking it down tighter. As for the popups I believe they are setting timers using java script or popping the ads on the close window event.

On a side note, check this often as patches seem to change it back to "enabled". ;-)

Do you buy Spybot or is it a freeware?
