Have I become a racist?
PHXnews ^ | 4/26/03 | Craig J. Cantoni

Cantoni writes:

In the early 1970s, I risked my fledging business career to fight for the idea of equal rights and against racial discrimination. Today, I fight against the idea of equal outcomes and the racial preferences required to make them a reality.

Have I become a racist?

Thirty-one years ago, I implemented affirmative action programs to encourage blacks to apply for positions that had been closed to them. Today, I fight racial quotas that masquerade as affirmative action.

Have I become a racist?

Back then, when I was a young supervisor for a multinational insurance company, I went around my boss and his boss to the CEO, demanding that he overrule their decision not to fire a white manager who had been caught stealing company equipment. Why? Because a black clerk had been fired for stealing claims drafts. It would have been a racial double standard to let the white employee keep his job. Today, I fight the double standards that make it easier to fire a white than a minority.

I had violated an unspoken rule of the business-government-media establishment. The rule is this: Whites should smile and nod their heads in agreement when a minority or minority advocate spouts nonsense about race. In other words, whites are supposed to treat minorities condescendingly, as if they do not have the intelligence and courage to stand up for themselves. Have I become a racist? No, but the establishment certainly has.

Well said.

"In the 1960's, I was a 'nigger lover', as I wanted citizens to be judged based on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. In the 1990's, I was a 'racist' because I wanted citizens to be judged on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin."

This article pretty much mirrors this (paraphrased) paragraph, which I remember reading somewhere, probably FR, it shows how silly things have gotten.

The Left calls Charlton Heston a racists. Mr. Heston marched for civil rights with Dr. King in 1963 - long before Hollywood found it fashionable.

When clients ask me to conduct conventional diversity training for them, I decline, telling them that such training backfires, because it teaches employees to focus on racial differences instead of human similarities.

This is the correct way to understand diversity and multiculturism. we should declare that we have won, and have no further needs for these people and their divisive programs.

And in the next breath, that type of leftist will accuse the Jews of a global conspiracy to rule the world through secret and sinister manipulation of governments.

I detest the racism of the left. I'm finding much more commitment to racial tolerance on the right these days. This is partly because the right is willing to fight to defend oppressed people, whereas the left would rather protest. One leads to an end to suffering; the other lets it go on indefinitely

Anyone interested in exploring this further would really benefit from reading Dinesh D'Souza's "The End of Racism" He gets into what race politics really is and means.

Well said, risk!

Local tv survey in California showed 3 of 4 blacks oppose the war vs. 3 of 4 non-blacks support the war. This really equals - blacks don't support Bush because he may take away some of their superiority.

Local black tv forums are already preparing "methods" to recruit young voters for Democrats.
One suggestion was that they will hold free concerts (any liberal musician). Before the concert they will explain why the young ones should vote Democrat, then get them registered to vote, then ON WITH THE SHOW!

"blacks don't support Bush because he may take away some of their superiority."

I will surely be labeled a racist as well, but they (as a Democratic voting bloc majority) don't support Bush because they have been told Republicans want to take away their freebies, which they feel they are entitled to. Hence "entitlements." Doubt it? Talk to my neighbors who complain, loudly, about not getting enough food stamps at the outlet. Four adults, one teenager. Noone works.

Local tv survey in California showed 3 of 4 blacks oppose the war vs. 3 of 4 non-blacks support the war. . .

Much change is happening in our country right now. In the past, "progressives" wanted to end slavery. Progressives wanted to help the destitute during the Great Depression. And progressives wanted to end forced segregation. But who is progressive now?

The left has become the status quo. Their agendas have all been met, some with noticable benefit, and others in tragedy. One can't merely pick last decade's fighters for justice and think that their causes promise justice this year.

However, non-whites in this country have been particularly well-targeted with the propaganda that because "progressives" ended segregation, anyone labeled as such now must be on their side.

On the other hand, it's the new right that has the freshest agendas. The challenge now isn't to find new ways to spend money, but to make what little spending we can afford help the most people. Anyone recognizing this is taking up the challenge and doing a level best to improve our lot. Moreover, the new right is accepting the threats our nation is facing from outside, and answering them with resolve.

I think there's a lot of ground to cover in reaching non-white constituents of the left, but it's possible. When their Asian, Latino, and Black troops come back from Iraq victorious, they will see how empowered they can be as patriots who support this country.

The left has many people in this country believing that America is wealthy enough to always provide a land of milk and honey for every citizen, no matter how challenging the current economic conditions are. Non-white races have been caught by this idea hook, line, and sinker. No form of government can promise wealth for everyone. We need to do a better job of showing our young citizens of all colors that opportunity and equality are much more important than entitlements.
