This sounds like CLINTON SPIN to me.

That is possible .. but I don't doubt that Clinton tried to stick his nose into this

This sounds like Clinton's people still trying to horn in on a success they never had.

The more I read about this, the more I agree with your comment. Clinton is going to take credit for the success of this war! The media is going to toot his horn along with him until the American people think he was the behind the scenes CIC!

In the crucial weekend before to the final breakdown of diplomacy in March, Mr Clinton was a guest of Mr Blair's at Chequers where the pair discussed the crisis.

Note the chronology: Clinton meets with Blair, then diplomacy breaks down. What an a*shole is our Bill!

Well, I don't like to knock Tony Blair, but I have had mixed feelings about him. Whether or not he actually took bill clinton's advice, IT WAS EXTREMELY UNWISE OF HIM TO MEET WITH CLINTON AT ALL UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

His only proper course was to refuse to meet with clinton privately, and to inform Bush of clinton's request, which was extremely irregular and highly questionable, if not treasonous.

I don't doubt that, as Freepers have speculated, clinton also met with Chirac and Schroeder and helped advise them on the foolish course they took.

I think this is a bunch of hooey. Bill Clinton is probably the source of that story. Slick Willie wants to be considered relevant and he wants to still be a player in the world stage. He is just trying to horn himself in this war. Blair probably just politely accepted his invitations to meetings and let ole Bill ramble on.

What I find offensive is that Clinton had the nerve to try to give President Bush advice, especially since Bush has to try to clean up the foreign policy messes that Clinton left behind!

I am thinking about this. The spin part is the yada yada about how Clinton's advice is so valued. I do not doubt that Clinton tried to insinuate himself into this.

I still bet Clinton's name is on some of those letters and papers found in Baghdad.

I am with you on this one! I said all along that those six benchmarks sounded like Clinton had written them.

If people cannot see that Clinton was involved with Blair, no amount of talking about it is going to change minds. They had better remember back to that first news conference from the White House with Blair when Pres Bush was ready to spit nails he was so mad.

Clinton has been advising Blair on almost everything including how he could win elections for his party in Britain. It isn't Blair being nice, Blair likes Clinton!

.......

Blair is a worthless socialist rat! Like Clinton. Anyone that wants to be their friend and supports them are rats too......

Mr Blair and Mr Clinton met at least three times to discuss the war, underlining the extent to which Mr Blair rates Mr Clinton's analytical powers, despite the bond of trust he has also formed with the Republican White House.

If this is true .. I would Like to know NOW what business it is of Clinton's to UNDERMIND OUR NATIONAL SECURITY by going behind the scenes to dictate how this should be handled

I agree with you. I always was a bit "confused" about Blair's sudden embracing of Bush after being SUCH a friend of Clinton's. Oh, how I wish Bill Clinton would just disappear FOREVER.

"Well, my respect for Blair just took a slight dip. Maybe when the White House detected this meeting is when the rug was pulled on resolution #2."

My respect for Blair is still high.... I listened to his impassioned speeches before his parliment when his 'job' was on the line.... and he was steadfast in doing the 'right thing'. However, you do bring up a good point as far as our timing is concerned. Maybe it was Blair's meetings with Clinton that convinced Bush to "just do it".

Am I reading this incorrectly? It seems to me that Clinton was deliberately working against Bush and the United States as he sought to extend Blix's work. Had France not opened their mouth and promised to veto any resolution with an ultimatum of war we could still be watching UN meetings. Clinton's work indeed, lots of talk about the right thing to do, no action.

This was not an effort to help Blair, but rather one to sabotage Bush (Blair would have been collateral damage).

BINGO!!!

Probably explains the return to the Security Council for one last resolution.

Hey, great catch. I think you got something there. Clinton would be just the one to try to sabatoge the path to war by that crazy notion of going back to the UN for that totally unnecessary "permission" resolution. That analysis helps me understand the otherwise unfathomable insistence by Blair on that damnned resolution. It works for me.

What a guy that Clinton is. What a guy!

"HA! I knew Clinton was mixed up with this whole thing. I think he was advising Chiraq and Schroeder as well. Blair obviously didn't take his advice."

The whole Gol-dog Democrat Socialist Party has been behind this whole dam war, undermining Bush and his Republican Party. If, Bush was not aware of this, could this lead to treason? We all know what their purpose was.

It might be true but none of Clinton's moves are going unnoticed by this White House. The day of reckoning has to be coming close for the stealth ex-president.

All that "chatter" being heard wasn't just coming from Iraq I'm sure of that.
