Did you know that Ronald Reagan signed a secret agreement with Gorbachev 1985 to merge the American and Soviet Union school systems?

place the rsponsibility (sic) squarely where it belongs, and demand that YOUR congressman stop this bill from reaching the president's desk.In case you didn't notice it was White House spokesman Scott McClellan who started this mess. Most of us on the ground are calling our reps but it doesn't excuse the White House from using a Saturday bombshell to get gunowners to beat the bushes.
I find it ironic that this thread sat virtually idle during the time of AnnaZ's show but it exploded when a handfull of folks showed up after the show was over.

..was Ronald Reagan a conservative?...Yes. One who regularly disappointed other conservatives.
Compromise is a part of politics Luis, but it's something for the President to deal with, not Free Republic. FR should not expect or defend it. We should always be the hard rim on the Right, not the get-along centre. Regards, By

"In case you didn't notice it was White House spokesman Scott McClellan who started this mess."You mean, made the public aware of the upcoming congressional debate over the issue so that we could let our feelings on the subject be known to our congressional representatives, and they could not sneak it in behind Laci Peterson stories?
It's an interactive government, don't leave it all up to the president.

Look over my post #117, that's political reality.
Of the people pictured, which one do you think will care about the issues that FReepers care about?
The rest of FReepdom may be here to discuss theories and ideology, but I am a trenches guy, I'm all about sending my best choice to DC everytime.
I'm about politics, and politics are about compromise to gain leverage.

You mean, made the public aware of the upcoming congressional debate over the issue so that we could let our feelings on the subject be known to our congressional representatives, and they could not sneak it in behind Laci Peterson stories?Your point would be valid if the intention of the White House was to bring attention to the debate to Americans other than gunowners who would seek to end it. Non-gunowners don't care about this ban at all. As for gunowners, we've been watching this thing since it reared its ugly head in '94.
So my question to you is: Why would a low level funtionary raise this issue on a Saturday knowing that the issue would only entice the likes of the original bill's sponsors to rally the troops?

Like it or not, this issue is so far below the radar to most that it truly doesn't matter.

I just went to GOOGLE, and within seconds found an AK-47 for sale, by a reputable dealer, as well as AK-47 clips. I thought they were banned? What are the specifics of the bill Todd? Why won't you answer my question? No you did not find an AK47 and what do you mean by ak47 clips?

Like it or not, this issue is so far below the radar to most that it truly doesn't matter. That's not an answer. Also nothing coming from the White House during a time of war is under the radar. Even on a Saturday.
Have you noticed the website Feinstein and Schumer have up applauding this announcement? Hardly under the radar.

Yep, I heard the show, and very much enjoyed the delightful interplay between you and Anna. It might be a good idea to apply the whip a little to the callers, in a Mike Savage way. Draw out their key point, and then on, to the next caller. It may also be worthwhile, when you have a specific topic of interest to a certain group on FR (eg the AWB) to search through the threads on that topic and invite those (via Freepmail) with an opinion to phone in, such notification to be done a few days in advance so they can compose their thoughts. That way 1. you'd have a larger pool of callers to draw on, and 2. once Freepers had gone to air they would take a closer interest in subsequent programs. Please keep on keeping on with Radio FR because it's the type of endeavour that will grow exponentially once it hits a certain level of listenership. All the best, By
