SARS BUG DEADLIER THAN AIDS SAYS DOC Apr 24 2003
A LEADING doctor has warned the SARS virus could be more devastating than AIDS.
Dr Patrick Dickson called on world governments to act to stamp out the threat from the deadly respiratory illness.
Dr Dixon, one of Europe's experts on predicting global trends, said it could be more dangerous than AIDS because of its ability to spread quickly.
He said: "It is worth remembering that AIDS has infected 80 million people so far over 15 to 20 years.
"AIDS spreads slowly so we can track it and plan for it. We have effective anti- viral drugs which can prolong life.
"But this is different, we don't have the time. This is a far more serious epidemic potentially than AIDS."
Dr Dixon said his main concern was rural, isolated areas in China and around the world.
He added: "In a country like India, which is chaotic with minimum health provision, the potential for spreading the virus is huge."
Dr Dixon, a fellow at the Centre for Management Development at London Business School, said if current trends continued, there could be a billion cases within 60 weeks.
He has called on world leaders to address the problem as a matter of "national security".
The Government yesterday advised Britons not to travel to Toronto, Hong Kong and the Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Beijing and Shanxi because of SARS.
Toronto is the first location outside Asia added to the list.

AIDS kills everyone eventually so far, SARS kills 5.6% of the time, mortality rate stated by the CDC today.

And apparently SARS being successfully treated in countries like the US. It seems like there is an element of transmission that has to do with poor public sanitation.
To: Mister Baredog
AIDS takes blood or sex to transmit, Sars can spread through the air or by touch so alteration of behavior won't control it. That is what is so serious about Sars.

SARS being successfully treated in countries like the US Medical resources are currently adequate for every SARS patient in the US - the problem arises when the hospitals fill up.

My prediction: the AIDS lobby cannot help themselves, they feel everyone is out to get them anyway and they cannot stand to take a backseat to anyone in the realm of "whose disease is worse". They will be aghast at the idea that anyone would place SARS higher on the "Scary" list than AIDS and will work to keep funding for SARS (research, education, etc) from happening. Just a guess, of course.

yeah, was gonna post that.
Aids eventually gets almost everyone. If you have vast wealth, you can get the high dollar cocktails that supress it like Magic does. He'll eventually go downhill though as the virus mutates and resists. Aids is essentially a death sentance...something Homos don't like to advertise. It just takes 7-10 years.

I suspect that it will not spread like it does in third world countries. They said that there were reasons to think that part of the transmission was due to blocked up sewage coming in through showers in apartments and hotel rooms.
I can't tell you how many times I have stood in a pool of water in a shower in a third world country because the plumbing is so bad. Believe me, it will never happen again!!!

Aids would not have been a problem if quarantine had been used to isolate it. The political considerations have caused way more deaths than necessary. The homos should be proud that thay caused more deaths from their culture than would have been necessary.

I haven't really been following this story. What I do know is that the death rate from flu and pneumonia in this country is about 20 deaths per day. How do we know that SARS isn't just old fashioned pneumonia?

Dr Dixon said his main concern was rural, isolated areas in China and around the world. I don't get that. Why rural? I would think that cities would be the worst off.

Absolutely correct. To the AIDS lobby, this will be seen as a conspiracy to grab up "their" dollars and shove them to the side.

Yeah, but there'd still be a bunch of Bug chasers intent on getting it so they can have bath house orgies without concern. After all, it's all about "ME" isn't it? Narcissism has played a HUGH role in the spread of Aids in the U.S.A. Some packers probably wouldn't be happy unless everyone has it...Then treatment would be available for free for everyone. What they fail to comprehend is that their behavior primarily contributed to their death sentance.

Yes....I have the same kind of question...I understand 40,000 usually die from the flu/pneumonia (one or both, I'm not sure) every year......so is SARS REALLY that bad....although there are those who say YES....I do not know.

You people are making stuff up. Nobody is saying this. Except for you. The AIDS lobby has done no such thing. Let's all just make up some stories...to make ourselves feel good.

The Canadian mortality rate reported today was 10%. The US rate may go up to match that because it started spreading in Canada earlier.
