Freedom Definitely Isn't Free
So far the Bush administration has requested $75 billion ($255 an American) for Operation Iraqi Freedom. How does that compare to other wars?
BusinessWeek pegs World War I at $191 billion in 2002 dollars ($2,489 for each American), WWII at $2.9 trillion ($20,388 each), Korean War at $336 billion ($2,266 each), Vietnam War at $494 billion ($2,204 each) and the Gulf War at $76 billion ($306 each), $54 billion of which coalition members reimbursed.

for use in destruction of leftist argument du jour, "WHAT'S THE WAR GONNA COST?" We've all heard the latest RAT/leftist mantra, so here's some comparative analysis to help refute their bilge.
Pass it around to all your compatriots.

Good post. Speaking of quagmires, I'd like to see the figures thrown in for the War on Poverty.
To: BOBTHENAILER
Sounds like a hell of a great investment. We have removed a regime that has cost the free world billions and billions each year.
How will the shreiking fairies of ABCNNBCBS and the NY Slimes try to spin this?

You should work on this combo Quagmire and War on Poverty and come with a real knock mantra for our side.
When you get there, please post it and ping me.

The War on Poverty was and continues to be a War to create and maintain Poverty ... for us all if the leftist/marxist behind it have their way.
When I think of the trillions of dollars thrown down that rat hole in the name of a socialist scam ... it makes me ill.
By contrast, the money spent in efforts like this, when our will to follow through is strong and not compromised by thoe politics of those same leftists/marxists amongst us, have resulted in the economic booms that are a natural result of true liberty and the free market for both ourselves and the nations we have liberated.

I'm sure that we have flushed away trillions since LBJ trotted out his famous war on poverty!
Talk about a quagmire!

Good one.
To make it even better, the last I heard we had only spent about twenty billion.
No one knew what this was going to end up costing...I remember hearing Rumsfeld make that point vociferously.
Shoot, we still have enough in the account to take out a couple more despots. ;-)

Shoot, we still have enough in the account to take out a couple more despots. ;-)You'd better be real careful with statements like that.
Next thing you'll see is a New York Times article quoting you as an unamed source close to Senior Bush Administration Officials, stating the following: "Inasmuch as we have allocated $70 billion for the Iraq effort and have only spent $20 billion so far, we feel its time to upgrade the plans we have drawn up for Syria, Iran and North Korea."
"With $50 billion left, we might be able to take out all three, and that would certainly carry the war popularity into the 2004 election season."

I'll just bookmark this page as a source. :-)It came to me from a newsmax email, I sometimes get as many as 2-4 from them a day. Before I posted it I checked Business Week to see if I could get a link and Newsmax. Had to subscribe to BW, which I didn't want to do and no link on the newsmax website. Sorry.
