It's Earth Day. Find out how evil you are.
My Footprint ^

Posted on 04/22/2003 5:27:40 AM PDT by Valin

If everyone live like your humble servant it would take 4 earths. I'm so ashamed of myself. :-( I was hoping for more, it's obvious that in the coming year I will have to buckledown and try harder.

I think they rig the quiz, so that we feel guilty for living in the US.

Good afternoon

Okay, I hit a 6.9. I am jealous of all you guys over 10. I guess that means I have planets envy?

I'm so ashamed, I only need 3 planets. I do have a question though - how can one take this internet survey without electricity? And I wonder what the maximum possible number of planets is. I'm going back to check...

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 21.2 PLANETS.

Only 6.4 planets - guess I'll need to stop taking the subway to work. ;^

PAVE THE PLANET

How 'bout: CELEBRATE EARTH DAY--HUG A TELEPHONE POLE!

As I live in apartment and am a stay-at-home mom, I scored a measly 3.7 planets. I'll take Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter, please.

It's kind of stupid but as a younger man, I had a friend in college who would make the emphatic proclamation "Evaryday is Earth Day!" right before he tossed his empties.

Going by memory, I live alone. I produce mounds of trash. I love a long hot shower (Listen to Terry Kath's "Hour in the Shower" on Chicago 3). My car drinks gas for minimal output. I drive alone, and often, anywhere. In winter the heat's on, in summer, AC is my best friend.

Admittedly, these are not 100% of the time, but I'm hopeful that some Jimmy Treehugger and his live-in lady Zoe "Inchworm" Panda-Dolphin read my entry and produced a few pounds of waste in their knickers!

I did it as a Saudi and this is what I got.

CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES

FOOD 0.4

MOBILITY 0

SHELTER 0.3

GOODS/SERVICES 0.2

TOTAL FOOTPRINT 0.9

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 4.1 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 1.0 PLANETS.

Here are my results:

CATEGORY ACRES
FOOD 4.2
MOBILITY 1.2
SHELTER 5.7
GOODS/SERVICES 4.7
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 16

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.

(ie, the USA)

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 3.6 PLANETS.

I recycle, bicycle, use public transport, and eat little processed food.

But I do have a full size van that gets 14 mpg.

One drawback, among many, in this test, is that no consideration is made for how productive a person or a country is. If the whole world were as productive as the US, we'd have enough energy and wealth to recycle and reuse to a far greater extent.

Hmmm, I better sell three quarters of my house, cut off my electricity, tear out all our plumbing, grow my own fruits and vegetables, sell my cars, travel by horse, and then the earth would be saved.

It's selfish people like us, Freepers, who want to poison the water, poison the air, and kill children.
