Halle Berry says she thinks she's 'ugly'

Halle Berry solidified her place as one of the world's sexiest women with her role as Bond girl Jinx in "Die Another Day."

But the Oscar-winning actress (Monster's Ball) says she still doesn't see herself as a beautiful star.

"To be totally honest, most of the time I think I'm ugly," she told the German magazine Journal fur die Frau. "I see myself without makeup every morning and that's why I don't have illusions anymore. I certainly don't feel like a big star."

Berry added that being black still hinders her progress in Hollywood.

"For many film studios and directors skin color remains a problem. They don't believe that the audience will accept a black actor in the main role. These narrow-minded people underestimate the public and prevent advancement in the industry."

Berry's next film will be "X-2," the sequel to "X-Men" slated for a May 2 release.

Good grief when my father alive, he would say 'colored'. My mother being from the West Indies would say, negro and she still says negro.

Besided you're right about NAACP. African-American would really apply to anyone born in Africa come to America, including white people, indians and coloured people. I've never seen white people designated as "italian-american",etc.

Halle's father is dead as a door nail. She didn't go to his funeral and basically spat on his grave. Good for her. He beat her mother to a bloody pulp and then took off. He was a nothing, and not famous or infamous. This thread has really surprised me that it has gone on so long BUT I found the discussion to be enlightening and refreshing, even lively.

The word she used was "negro", and it was used APPROPRIATELY to describe the lack of negroid features in Halle Berry.

I believe the moderator needs to be aware that false accusations of racism are being slung at Jael and to dispel the claims that Jael used defamitory racial terms - she didn't.

Names of my relatives include Bozzi, Feliccia, Groppi, Nannini, and DiPippo, but I am NOT an Italian-American - I AM AN AMERICAN with Italian ancestry.

AFAIK, there is no such thing as an African-American, I don't know of any country with "Africa" in its title that offers dual citizenship with America.

My last name is Fichera, and to be sure I never heard my dad call himself Italian-American, even though I suppose he could have. The guy from the 'greatest generation' called themselves Americans. Having said that, I understand why SOME black people call themselves African-American. It's the same reasoning behind many of my store customers who are rastas and 'into' ethiopian 'rootz and kulcha. The truth is you are where you are planted. Some people are trying to regain something that is impossible. You were born here and you are an American, not an African. Maybe I shouldn't talk because I know where my ancestors are from, but who cares?

I don't use the term "African-American", and I DO wish the NAACP would change its name (not to mention its politics). I find the word "colored" offensive - it conjures up images of segregated lunch counters and water fountains, and I don't know about you, but I can do without that.

You had better not be accusing me of that. I have been very careful to represent what I saw accurately - and I didn't repeat the word because if it WAS what got her post pulled, it seemed to me repeating it was probably a bad idea.

If you have a problem with her post having been pulled (and obviously you do), I suggest you take it up with the Admin or the one who hit abuse on her.

Oh, I think she's good looking enough, but her face is still a little too baby-cute. There's a real beauty out there, though, and its Catherine Zeta-Jones.

It wasn't her use of negro, it was "negress" that might have crossed the line. Anyway, I hope that she will be reinstated, I don't believe she meant to be offensive, she just used an outdated term, similar to "jewess".
