Most of this article is a re-hash of the Waco, Texas Branch Davidian disaster. I expect (hope) this one turns out better.

10 years later and they're still debating whether they did the right thing? Here's a hint... if you're going after US citizens with tanks, chances are you've exceeded your Constitutional authority!

"I think there was a belief that if you put enough pressure on this group that has killed federal agents...

The Branch Davidians did not kill any federal agents until the federal agents conducted an armed assault on their home.

I hope every single one of the BATF goons present that day suffer long, lingering, painful cancer deaths.

Three years? Waste of damn time and money. Time for Darwin's broom to sweep that goofy little compound, and to find a sheriff with a pair. You can't enable armed standoffs, because they spread like cancer among the goofy, and while I completely understand some reluctance on the part of the sheriff if he knows these people, 3 years is too much.

On a side note, wonder if they cut off their internet access in there, and what this guys FReeper handle is?

debate whether greater patience could have changed the outcome.

Greater patience would only have allowed the attack plan to be further improved in order to preclude any survivors at all.

Concerned about the children because of sex abuse allegations against Mr. Koresh, Ms. Reno approved the plan on April 17 after several days of debate.

Sycophant alert, the author's polluted mind revealed. The "I did it for the children" excuse reported as fact beyond doubt. Throw the entire article in the toilet where it belongs.

Dick Rogers, who developed rules of engagement at Ruby Ridge, Idaho

Rules of Engagement were very simple in both cases. Extermination is to occur if the target breathes. And level the property.

That lesson is not lost on Sheriff Brownlowe, still patiently awaiting Mr. Gray's surrender. The former member of an anti-government militia is wanted on felony charges after biting a state trooper and trying to grab his gun during a traffic stop. He now faces weapons charges, too.

Oh sweet Jesus.

Most of this article is a re-hash of the government version of what happened in Waco. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

His prophecy of a final battle against the government was self-fulfilling.

"The Davidians started the fires," said Mr. Van Zandt. "The only question is, did the government put them in a position to facilitate that, and the answer is probably yes."

I agree. They unwittingly brought Armageddon to someone who was waiting for it. There should have been a less confrontational way of handling the situation. But then they wouldn't have been able to try out all that cool stuff. The BATF screwed up and then the FBI compounded the mistake.

This situation at Gun Barrel is more similar to the Ruby Ridge standoff than Waco. At least they appear to be handling it in a more responsible way. There's no way bringing in someone for resisting arrest can be worth the slaughter of a family.

Did the custody issues ever get resolved? My recollection from several years ago was that the children's father was awarded custody but the wife was hiding out on her father's compound and the sheriff wouldn't enforce the court orders.

"The entire thing is not worth one of those children getting hurt,"

Well then Mr. Sheriff...let it go.

It doesn't say what infractions the warrants were issued for but this guy is effectively isolated and cut off. Practically imprisoned already. Let it go.

I just hope the BATF stay the hell out of it. Let Texas take care of it.

"At a barricade situation like Waco or Ruby Ridge" where federal agents had been killed, "the people involved are anywhere from afraid to pumped up or empowered. ... We denied them the vision of tomorrow."

Koresh had the last laugh. The DEMONRATS have been denied their vision of Tomorrow.

They threw in the Tanks and 'liquidated' [their word] the situation, in part because it was distracting from the push for Hilarycare.

The sword NEVER departed that Admin...,er, REGIME.

And at the next General Election, the American People took back the Congress...BOTH Houses.

The Democrats haven't won a National Election since!

Most of this is one sided propaganda from the viewpoint of a bunch of criminals who should be in jail now for their crimes.

Lest we forget, it started when a bunch of macho pigs wanting a "show" to get more funding attcked the BD compound and got some of their folks shot up. It then went from bad to worse until the fibbies gassed and burnt the children to save them.

Waco was an appalling abuse of police powers. Every one of the scum who perpetrated it should be enjoying leife sentences or the comforts of death row for their murders.
