Janet Napolitano, close buddy of Hillary Clinton and the Governor of Arizona is causing a political firestorm in Arizona.
She has jumped into the middle of a political correctness issue with a view to making political hay from it.
It has long been a bone of contention with the PC crowd that one of the mountains in Central Phoenix is named Squaw Peak. Squaw, claim the PC crowd, is a derogatory term for a Native American woman, some even claim it refers to just a certain part of a woman, but that is till in dispute.
The PC crowd have made several attempts to have the mountain renamed, however the locals for the most part dont want it changed, nor do the they want to shoulder the financial burden associated with all the address changes that go with it.
Enter the Governor; seeing an opportunity to pander to the minority electorate, she has proposed a new name for Squaw Peak, she recommends Piestewa Peak in honor of the first Native American woman to die in combat.
Trouble is, this move is illegal. There are State and Federal laws that forbid the naming of geographic features until a person is five years deceased. This is to stop knee jerk reactions (such as this), to allow for validation of the person in question and to allow for public input on the issue.
No matter, Napolitano (former AZ Attorney General) never found a law she couldnt ignore when it suited her. She takes her proposal to the Arizona Board for naming Geographical features, where the chairman politely tells her that her proposal cannot be considered for five years. (Barry Goldwater just had to go through this five-year process)
Her response is to try to get the Chairman fired, but she cant; he is a volunteer and she just re-appointed him a couple of months back, she has no jurisdiction.
Undiscouraged, she has the proposal submitted to the Board for consideration. Today, The day of the Board meeting, the two board members that are members of the public do not show. The Boards byelaws prohibit any business being conducted without at least one public person on the board
No matter, the Governors Council advises them that they can suspend the byelaws and proceed
They then railroaded through the governors proposal.
Meanwhile, Pfc Lori Piestewa, - who died defending the laws that are being broken in her name -has become a political football. Opponents to the renaming point out that there are four other Arizonans killed in combat that are not getting any consideration. Worse, the opposition are now questioning Piestewa suitability to be honored as she is an unmarried mother, etc, etc.
In short, Napolitano is dishonoring Pfc Piestewas memory by using her as a political football to further her own ambitious, selfish, agenda.

Lori Piestewa has served her country honorably for which we should all be thankful, she should be allowed to Rest In Peace.

Two criminal peas in a pod. They probably feed off each other (read anything you want into that statement :).

"Didn't Lori Piestewa just die defending this country, and the laws for which it stands, that Janet Napolitano is breaking in her name?"

There are no words in the English language to describe just how low, inhuman, disgraceful, egocentrical and dispicable Napolitano's actions are.
In fact, those who are dragging Piestewa's name through the mud in oder to counter Napolitano's actions are just as low, inhuman, disgraceful, egocentrical and dispicable as she (Napolitano) is.
Bless you Pfc. Lori Piestewa. You served with honor and courage. Your family has good reason to be proud of you. You will be honored by those of us who will refuse to confuse the mechanizations of politicians with your sacrifice. May your children grow strong and smart and remember and benefit from your strength and courage.
Pfc Lori Pestawa, 22 year old mother of two. She was third generation military. Her father was in Viet Nam, and her grandfather in WWII.
With honor and respect,

I have written to so many people about this I am tired of it. Just wore out. And I am just about to give up. This thing about "squaw" being a derogatory name for a native woman is more pcbs. I speak a native language, of the Algonquian language family (which includes Chippewa, Sauk, Shawnee, Delaware, Cree, Illini, Naskapi etc.)(But not Hopi) and in all its variants, "squaw" simply means woman. But it doesn't matter how many times you tell the PC pinheads this (look it up in Schoolcrafts'lexicons, idiots!) they just look straight past you with a blank stare and then rant 'Squaw means prostitute!' or whatever they've been told. "E'quiew" --- Ojibway "Eswiuew" --- Cree. "Eskwaw" Naskapi --- "Squaw" --- (Delaware?) In addition, you PC deafers, a variant of 'squaw' or 'esquiew' is added to the name of an animal to specify a female of the species. 'Muussquiew' female moose. Lord, why do I keep trying?

You mean that this Liberal Democrat (oops, sorry for the redundancy!) is perpetuating dishonor for the troops like her ilk did in the last Presidential election? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!
When are the people gonna wake up and get rid of these PC Socialist bird-brains?

You make an excellent point. I wonder, has the PC crowd EVER fought for anything of substance?
I think not.
