I agree. Other personalities are watching what happens to the Chickie Dicks career, this could prove to be pivotol in Hollywierd's cramming their un-informed opinions down the public's throat.
Yes, and at no point did I suggest that we don't have the right to speak out. See how easy reading comprehension is?
My point, the one that people seem to be making an effort to not get, is that this does no real good that simply not buying their material doesn't already do. It's nothing but a feel-good measure, something I guess liberals don't have a monopoly on.
Uh, no. She was only bashing Bush. If I say I'm embarassed that Clinton is America's president, I'm not necessarily bashing America. If anything, it's a sign that I'm upset at how the home I love has been soiled.
, but she also said the more people are upset about it, the happier she is. (If you wish, I can find the direct quote.)
Please do, if you can.
As has been said time and time again, nobody here is against her right to say what she wants.
And I never made such an accusation.
But she needs to understand there are consquences and repercussions for the things she says, just as they are for the things we say, whether in the real world or here at FR.
Yes. So why not just make the "repurcussions" economic as others have suggested? Again (and again, and again...), what good does taking half a day out of your life, going to a concert and waving a picket sign do that simply not buying their material won't do? Do you really have no better battles to wage than this?
And in case you have, I've said several times on this thread that an economic boycott is a far more effective way to make your point than what people are suggesting here.
Thank you.
Your second statement proves my point: you can spread the word on something without looking like a peace protestors with cardboard signs and silly slogans.
People, please, stop knee-jerking for just one second and listen to the point I'm making. There is an entire world of battles to fight, and you're obsessing over a trio of female signers who are not in any way considered to be political experts by anyone, even those who agree with their views. They're influence in the political world is squat, and you're sending in the tanks after them. If your purpose is to feel good about what a great activist you are, then I suppose you can conquer this molehill, raise your flag, and then pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
As far as I'm concerned, this one is done, and all this is doing at this point is turning them in martyrs. There are other more important battles, people: lots of them. Our point has been made, and our energies are now needed elsewhere.
And with that, I'm done.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that protests at concerts were designed to do any of the following:
1) Legitimately borrow both the limelight that the Dixie Chicks have used to get their message across, and the current media attention on the issue.
2) Educate others as to why people feel strongly about the statements of the Dixie Chicks.
3) Explain clearly why there is a boycott, and enforce the point that it has made - otherwise a drop in sales could easily be passed-off for any one of a number of reasons, which would otherwise make a boycott without an explanation a useless waste of time.
In other words boycott must be supported with protests or other like means. BTW I can vouch for the interview they conducted in New Zealand they skirted around an apology in a way that suggested that they wanted to have it both ways.
