If that's true (I hadn't heard that), then my apologies. But I haven't seen this myself, and the one article that I've found about this doesn't phrase it that way at all. It being a "joke" is another problem, of course, since there are some things you can't joke about. Nevertheless, they have apologized for this, so if you've seen otherwise I'd appreciate a link here, so I can see exactly what they said, and not a paraphrasing.
Even if that's the case, though, I still don't see what is going to come of protesting. Do you think that someone waving a picket sign is going to change their mind somehow? How does it actually help anything? All I see it doing is making them a bigger news item. Has your mind ever been changed by someone yelling and waving a sign?
I'm sorry, but I don't see this as something which is being done because there is some actual good that can come from it, kinda like thumping our chests about changing French Fries to Freedom Fries (which was brain-dead anyway, since the etymology of the term had nothing to do with France). I see it as little more than doing something to feel better about ourselves, regardless of whether it actually acheives anything concrete. Again, symbolism over substance.
If they would have pulled that stunt in Texas they would have been lynched. You are not supporting the troops if you don't support their Commander.
They now say they stand behind their comment. Which is it Natalie ?
Better things to do, Yea I got em. I still have a long memory though so I will boycott the French and Canada and Germany if I get a chance for a long time in addition to the Chicks. ( And I did like them and I will bet up to now my family bought every CD they made.)
Cash is KING. Hit em where it hurts.
I heard it also, and it more sounded to me like they made remarks without thinking about them. Honestly, I don't think they really know much about politics to begin with, and so don't understand much about political protocol and etiquette. Jumping all over someone like that and pummeling them into submission isn't activism, it's bullying. And not only does it accomplish nothing, but it runs the real risk of making us look worse, and them better.
They hammered on our president while overseas during a time of war. If they would have pulled that stunt in Texas they would have been lynched.
Wow. And you're actually proud of this. Glad to see my free country is holding up so well.
They now say they stand behind their comment.
Again, reference please.
Cash is KING. Hit em where it hurts.
That's different, and I do endorse that. What I don't see the point of is going down just to bounce up and down with picket signs, chant chants, and look like exactly the kind of leftist protestors conservatives usually make fun of.
Ummm... that's exactly what an "apology" is, you see.
and offer to perform free concerts for our troops or donate a portion of their profits to our military survivors. Actions speak louder than words
So someone can't speak their mind without having to shell out money for it? Heck, I'm not crazy about Bush either: should I have to perform community service to be allowed to hold and speak an opinion?
I think if they would be willing to do this then perhaps they could be forgiven
Why do you say "perhaps"? I'm asking you for specific things that will fix this. If that won't, what will?
but until I see some changes I will continue to vote with my wallet and incourage others to do the same.
That I have no problem with. What I see as pointless is wasting a few hours to show up to a concern of someone you don't like just to tell them you don't like them, especially when they've already (in my mind) done what they need to do to end this, and we're the ones dragging it on. Stop buying their stuff, sure. But then let it go, and focus on the real fights. It's not like there's any shortage of them, people.
Natalie is a Lib she went to school at the Lib capital Berkley. The only reason they are even trying to distance themselves from this remark is it is hurting sales. Down 42% at last count.
Entertainers have a forum no other American has. If they don't know much about politics maybe they should (1) learn before they spout off (2) shut the heck up (3) Suffer the wrath of their audience when their opinions no mater how uninformed piss of said audience.
Freedom of speach is a right. Stupidity is a choice.
Search on this forum under chicks you will find it
Please don't think me a smart guy but this topic has been cussed and discussed lots here at FR.
I believe you. I ask only because their exact words can be veiwed a number of ways, so I want to see them before making any judgment call.
AND she gave a Clinton line like, I'm sorry I got caught, not I'm sorry for what I said.
Even assuming that what happened to Trent was wrong, and it was only liberals you hounded them, are you saying that's who you want to emulate? That two wrongs make a right? But of course, it was also conservatives who were upset with him about this. His apologies only made it worse, because it made him appear to hold opinions that he does not. He made himself appear like a racist who got caught, when there were much better ways to handle that situation. There are plenty of conservative commentators who have already covered this ground.
AND she gave a Clinton line like, I'm sorry I got caught, not I'm sorry for what I said.
What Clinton did was get caught defiling a sacred office, and then lying about it under oath. What Natalie did was express an opinion that you disagree with.
And all of you continue to miss the point. So let me ask you since it's continually being ducked. What good will come of picketing them? Why not instead (sigh, again) show propriety, accept their apology, stop buying their music, and move on? No one has given me an answer to this yet.
I smell a FReep comin' on...
Does that sound like someone who was only joking or is apologetic?
As has been said time and time again, nobody here is against her right to say what she wants. But she needs to understand there are consquences and repercussions for the things she says, just as they are for the things we say, whether in the real world or here at FR.
Mrs Pasdar (ditsy chick spokesperson AKA Ms Maines) is the wife of an Iranian so I think she meant every word except for the words in her apology. She is only sorry (regrets) that real Americans are exercising their freedom of speech to condemn her anti Bush, anti troops and anti American comments.
Her statement was not an off-hand show of frustration, it was planned and evil. period. She has to live with it and you apologists need to realize that we also have freedom of speech. I thank you for your service to our country and you have a right to express your opinion but SO DO OTHER AMERICANS.
