A father’s farewell David Nixon, father of Marine Cpl. Patrick Nixon, said his son was as good a son as anyone could want. “The family considered Pat our Marine, but I now understand that Pat is everyone’s Marine,” David Nixon said. “He is the person that was willing to go and fight not only for us but for people he didn’t know.”

Dubya, thank you for this beautiful tribute. 21 years old forever: still a boy, but yet, such a man. Patrick is in the arms of Our Lord - he fought to free the Iraqi people from tyranny and oppression. His bravery will never be forgotten by his brothers in the Corps, who are still putting their lives on the line in Iraq, nor by the rest of us.

As I sit here with tears streaming down my face, all I can say is "Thank you" to Patrick and the whole Nixon family. This is a family that truly understands the meaning of service to one's country. They are in my thoughts and prayers, as are all those serving in our armed forces. Thanks for posting this moving tribute.

Living in the area where Marine Cpl. Nixon is from, I have been keeping up with this story. I have a question and would welcome a reply from anyone who may have info. I see that he was killed near Nasiriyah on March 23rd. Was he one of the 8 Marines who fell that day trying to rescue members of the 507th?
