I like your idea of advertising political views so people "won't get tricked into payinf for services" from a liberal dingbat. Think about it. If they could be so wrong politically, can you completely trust their judgement on other things?

This is the exact spirit of Pravda in the late 1920's, when Stalin's cult of personality was growing. It would be interesting to understand what turns otherwise rational and dignified humans into the abject butt-kissers they become when compelled to disclose their allegiance to their percieved master.

Let's remember people, it is WE who hire Bush or Clinton to take care of some government business. They serve at our pleasure, not the other way around.

Good article. My feelings, too, have progressed from mere relief that Al Gore was not elected to real admiration for somebody I think will someday be regarded as one of our greatest presidents.

For me, emotionally, no other President comes close to Ronald Reagan. Still, Dubya commands a much stronger emotional connection than his old man ever did.

I suspect that the visceral bond between our President and his supporters will come in handy during the next election.

There is a benevolent meaning of the word "authoritarian" which refers to people who accept heirarchy and position power as a convenient method of getting things done.

The Bush inner circle seems to be like that. Any one them could be President -- they are all qualified -- and they all know it. But it says here that the one who got elected gets to sit at the head of the table. So with that out of the way, let's figure out how we're going to get all this stuff done.

Only the very best-managed companies look like that at the top. The more usual case is to have either (a) a bunch of ego-driven maniacs who are constantly shooting torpedoes into each other's divisions so as to look good themselves, or (b) an autocratic ruler surrounded by boot-licking "yes men" who couldn't manage their own way out of a paper bag.

The first type is characterized by point successes and setbacks that are often spectacular, but seem to go in no particular direction and often cancel each other out; the second type announces Big Plans but never produces results. The Johnson Administration was of the first type. Clinton's was the second.

This Bush Administration is one of the few times in history that we have had a group of truly top-flight people working as a team.

They could get a lot done.

George W. Bush: Hero.

Excerpt:

My title includes the word “hero.” What does it take to be a hero? Isn´t leading your people and restoring their security and greatness essential to any such definition of a leader of men? His enemies spitefully call him a ‘cowboy´ but there is one representation of a cowboy from western genre that does accurately depict the figure of the 43rd President. It's Clint Eastwood´s portrayal of the preacher in the film Pale Rider where an underestimated man comes along to a small mining community and saves nearly all from disintegration and death.

Bush has done the same for all of us. He has had made us wave the flag and proudly say the pledge again which alone contributes volumes to our renewed viability as a national entity and is not compatible with national disintegration.

We´ve seen how little the world cares about us, yet the story that has not been covered is just how much George W. Bush cares about the rest of the world. How many would be in near-slavery today were it not for him? He has freed the Afghans and the Iraqis from unspeakable horrors. As one Iraqi said after we liberated his town “My life begins today.”

The world owes a great deal to this “cowboy” as do you and I.

Mr. Bush, if you should ever read this, I say to you sincerely that my own confidence for the future of our nation began on January 20, 2001 which was the day you were inaugurated President of the United States of America. I, like historians will be a hundred years from now, am forever grateful to you.

Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my General Interest ping list!. . .don't be shy.

I've never understood why the left pounced on the word, "cowboy". Cowboys are respresented as being trustful, hardworking, quiet, thoughtful, strong shouldered, honest, plain talking, cut to the chase, one of the good guys, and if you must, a hero.

That expresses my feelings as well. I'm proud to say that President Bush is my hero.

"...politicians have rarely meant much to me on an emotional level. In 1999 George W. Bush was no exception to this rule as I knew little about him and had no reason to believe that he would be what he has now become."

I'll second that...in '99 and into 2000, I was a ForbesFanatic--he would STILL make an excellent POTUS, BTW--and I feared that Dubyuh would be a middle-of-the-roader like his daddy.

"I recall that during the unforeseen election crisis of 2000 I sat in bleary-eyed anticipation hoping that Bush would be declared the winner. When he was, after the Supreme Court´s ruling, I was filled with anxious optimism for the future. I have not been disappointed once in the time since."

That's going a bit far, imho...I shared this author's "anxious optimism for the future" but I've been dismayed by what I considered to be Bush's caving on the Education Bill and his acceptance of increased tariffs and remained chagrined at the unwillingness of Ashcroft's Department of Justice to hold a single KorruptKlintonKrony accountable fer the 8-year ORGY of Law-Breakin', Deal-Makin', Abuse of Power and TREASON!!! However, Dubyuh's Foreign Policy instincts have been OUTSTANDING and I am "anxiously optimistic" that Dubyuh will use the next 5.5+ years to EXACT JUSTICE Upon the Evil-Doers Domestically while simultaneously shrinking the Federal Leviathan as OUR Founding Fathers outlined in the Constitution of the United States!! His SOTU speech certainly hinted at it, and I hope Dubyuh will use his GRAVITAS to promote FReedom in America as stalwartly as he's promoted FReedom abroad!!

Bush II is more of what we think Reagan was.... than I think Reagan really was.

Bush accomplishments to date are truely amazing compared to Reagan, and I think history will show that this presidency was truely remarkable and changed the course of this nation, and the world.

He's done more in the past 2 years than most presidents ever do. I look forward to 4 more years after 2004 - those should prove domestically amazing. The course we are embarking on is going to be felt for 20+ years after Bush II.

It's amazing what one can do following simple principles.

Bush rolled the dice and it came up all good.

Agree with him or not, you have to give Bush credit for taking the lead and maintaining that lead over what was a very long time.

The diplomacy involved to keep other armed forces out of the conflict, and keep Iraq from drawing in others, was nothing short of spectacular.

The way the 3rd ID, US Army made the longest and fastest advance of an armored division in military history and after a sand storm, had the strength to bring the tip of the spear right into the airport, then into baghdad witout a break is nothing short of amazing.

The number of Iraqi troops who were defeated even before they ever saw action by a year of amazing psy-ops, overwhelming preasure from the air, and relentless speed my the 1st marines and 3rd ID. Early reports talk about 4,5 or 6 iraqi soldgers a day changing thier clothes and going home to their families.
