[history]
A gunman with an AK-47 automatic rifle shot and killed a student and wounded three others Monday at a New Orleans high school, police said. Four suspects were arrested after a sweep of the surrounding neighborhood.
Chief Eddie Compass said he did not know if the suspects were students at the John McDonogh High School, where the shooting happened about 10:30 a.m.

"A gunman with an AK-47 automatic rifle shot " Was it REALLY an automatic weapon?
How can this happen in a school?" she demanded. "They have guards in there. They're supposed to have security."
Yes, minimum wage rent-a-cops with double-digit IQs are going to stop a gunman with their radios. Please lady.

Time for the "gun-control" freaks to take advantage of a tragic school shooting to advance their agenda......again.

Sorry about the casualties and prayers for the victims and relatives.
But, I thought libs had made schools 'gun free zones.' How can this have happened?

The school is one-block from the Degas House, where the French painter Edgar Degas stayed with relatives when he visited New Orleans in the 1870s. It is now a bed-and-breakfast. Well there was some vital, pertinent information.

Wait a sec, there's no way he should've had an AK47... that would be illegal!!!! This must be a mistake... If its illegal, he couldn't have gotten it. I think we need more gun laws to prevent this from happening again.

They are safe. Now that there are 100 armed policemen inside the building. Tomorrow when they are all gone, they will be in the killing zone again.

careful. This was a real crime. We don't want the left to use this, but we can't be callous to the point of appearing more worried about our guns than the very real victims of crime. I know it is abstract when the crime occurs in a faraway town. Politics is a tricky balance because there is a real price to be paid for the existance of these weapons. That gun control law won't stop the lawless is an argument that needs to be made, but the timing and tone are critical on a thread about kids being killed. I don't know how to properly respond here.

I hate to say it but I am more worried about my rights than the victims. Yes it's a tragedy, but if teachers could carry concealed, this might have been prevented.
By making schools gun-free the NEA and others have guaranteed a perfectly safe hunting ground for the deranged.

I hate to say it but I am more worried about my rights than the victims. Personally, I understand this. The victims are a long ways from me and I don't know them.
But ethically, on a public board, in a public statement, that sentiment is why "they" often win the politic. What we say matters in winning hearts and minds.

Was it REALLY an automatic weapon? It won't matter to the gun grabbers. This will be another reason to keep the assault-rifle ban. Which raises the question - how could this happen with the assault-rifle ban in place? Why didn't the Brady law protect us from this. Yes, minimum wage rent-a-cops with double-digit IQs are going to stop a gunman with their radios. Please lady.
Another clear indication that 911, local law enforcement, and even the warm/fuzzy feeling of private security guards are completely inadequate to protect unarmed citizens against predatory criminals - who in this case I'm guessing didn't bother to register (let alone pay for) the Kalishnikov.
