A Few Of FR's Finest....Every Day....04-14-03....viligantcitizen - The Exclusive Inquisition

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Once again, you, my dear readers, wanted to get the low-down on another of Georgia's mystery-men. Back-to-back inquisitions in Georgia, of all darn places....can you just imagine? So, after completing my latest interview and learning the most unwelcome news that there was to be another in this God-forsaken state, Lars gassed up the H2, loaded my "essentials" aboard (including my DKNY jeans, rugged Liz Claiborne hiking boots and oh-so-ever-important Coldwater Canyon all-weather jacket) and braved the wilds of western metro Atlanta to bring you:
viligantcitizen - The Exclusive
National Inquisition Interview

dansangel: Where and when were you born?

viligantcitizen: I was born June 9, 1967 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. to Kermit Randall and Barbara Hurst Kuhn. I was named Kermit after my father and his father Kermit Dale, who was KIA in Europe at the end of WW2. I am named William after my mother's Grandfather, William Carson, who was the Great Grandson of Kit Carson. I am a virulent mixture of German Irish from my Father's side and Cherokee/Irish from my mother's side.

dansangel: Sound positively dangerous. Tell us something about your upbringing.

viligantcitizen: I was raised in the small community of Winston, Ga., a small town on the west side of Douglasville. Except for the small subdivision our house was in, all the surrounding homes were farmhouses on acreage. Most had a wood stove for heat, and most had livestock to provide food for the family. We didn't have cable available until 1986.

My parents divorced when I was 11 leaving my Father to care for me and my younger brother Jason, who is 10 years younger than me.

viligantcitizen at Atlanta Support the Troops Rally last month

dansangel: I understand you were in the mil-...uh, military. How unfortunate for you to be forced into that.

viligantcitizen: After I graduated, I signed up for the Navy, which at the time was offering a 2-year active- 4-year reserve deal and guaranteed whatever A-school you were qualified for. I went to boot camp in Orlando, Fla. I was then shipped to the frozen tundra that is Great Lakes Naval Base (What a climate swing!) where I spent the majority of my active duty time attending Gunners mate "A" school and then "C" school for the MK 26 missile system.

dansangel: Wha-...? It almost sounds as though you enjoyed the experience!

viligantcitizen: I did my reserve duty at Naval Air Station Atlanta (Dobbins) and worked with the aviation ordnance team. One thing I deeply regret about that time is I was offered cryptology tech school but would have had to make a 10 year commitment, due to the length of the school for that billet. If I had taken that, I would be working for the NSA on the cool stuff for big figures. Oh well, to be young and stupid!

dansangel: Eeewwww....one of those "3-letter agencies?" I'd say you were darned lucky!

viligantcitizen: After I got out of the Navy, I tried to get electronics or machine maintenance type work. But the lure of money took me to the residential construction field, where the wages were much higher than other jobs I could get. I started out as a laborer and worked my way up for 7 years until I worked for myself. Then desert storm 1 came and the housing market crashed, so I took a job in a small custom metal fabrication shop. At that company, I fabricated metal for the skyboxes atop Bulldogs stadium, fabricated a copper roof for the Clemson Univ. Library, fabricated all the green and silver metal on the GA 400 tollbooths and numerous other projects across the southeast.

dansangel: Sounds like a fabricated story to me....

viligantcitizen: I did metal fabrication until I "discovered" the exhibit-trade show- event services business, which happened to pay a little more than standard fabrication shops.

Then, in 1998, I was lucky enough to find the company I now work for, Sparks Exhibits and Environments. Sparks is a multi- national exhibit company with 4 locations in the U.S., one in Europe and one in Japan. Before it was closed down, our Orlando branch fabricated and installed a large portion of Universal Studios and several other Disney projects.

To see what an exhibit looks like, go here... Sparks Online I had a large part in the Philips, Nvidia, Panasonic, and XM satellite projects shown on that page.

dansangel: Hmmmm.....I see. Uh, why don't you tell us about your personal life?

viligantcitizen and his beloved, Robin

viligantcitizen: I was married once for 7 years but it didn't work out. Robin and I knew each other through our ex-spouses. After her putting up with an alcoholic, can't keep a job longer than a month husband and me with my psycho paranoid, taping my phone calls for 4 YEARS and not hearing nothing wife, we got together and both left our spouses at the same time. That was 6 years ago as of Thursday, March the 20th. We had been planning to be getting married the following week, but we found a house we liked and moved. We are aiming for a small, outdoor ceremony in early June and I want to take her on a short Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.

dansangel: She certainly must be something special.

viligantcitizen: Words cannot describe how much I love Robin. It's like she was designed by my instructions, almost to the letter. Robin is loyal, spunky, a little tomboyish(she wants to play paintball with me and she baits her own hook when we go fishing).

viligantcitizen practicing paintball out in the woods

dansangel: Would you say you're a typical Southern male?

viligantcitizen: I am a non-stereotypical Georgia country boy. I love to fish, the outdoors, paintball, NASCAR, bbq, and growing my own veggies. But I don't like wrestling, I have all of my teeth, I can read above an 8th grade level, I listen to classical music sometimes, I am proud of my southern heritage but I feel if we ask the reparations people to forget the past, we should too and celebrate our heritage in private.

dansangel: Tell us about some of your role-models.

viligantcitizen: I draw a lot of inspiration from my younger brother. Although I was old enough to escape our evil, abusive step mom, Jason was not. And although he went through some miserable times and got what he did not deserve, he has turned out to be an upstanding human being and citizen. He is raising his son on his own after the boy's mother left for a short Vegas strip career. He is totally a health freak, he does not smoke or drink. He competes in local karate tournaments and tough men competitions and does well. He has managed his money wisely and just purchased a new split level home last year. He did not allow the bad circumstances of his childhood to affect his life nor does he use it as an excuse.

dansangel: Sounds wonderful...is he avail-....uh, I mean have there been any others that have influenced you?

viligantcitizen: Besides my brother, my heroes are Patton, Dale Earnhardt, Tom Glavine, The Founding Fathers, my Grandfather, my Grandmother who taught me that people who are not wealthy can still give of themselves for others, the passengers on Flight 93, firemen and paramedics and all those who have paid the ultimate price in service of their country.

dansangel: A smart man like you must have escaped that vast cesspool of conservatism...being from the South, you're a democrat, right?

viligantcitizen: Although I have voted since the 1992 elections, I never paid a whole lot of attention to politics until I came to FR in November of 2001. That's when my eyes were opened to the tactics of the left, the dems, and our mass media. I was awakened to the selective coverage and hidden agenda of the big media. I was informed of just how evil Clintoon really was and is and I never had heard of the Chinese missile technology deal until FR.

Paintballs!

Paintball chest protector

dansangel: I knew it was too good to be true!

viligantcitizen: Although, I have and do now classify myself as an independent, I do vote republican and share most republican views. I like President Bush and feel he's done a good job overall. However, it's getting harder and harder to tell some of the pubbies from dems by their voting record.

dansangel: And that's a problem?

viligantcitizen: All I want is a Federal gov that abides by the Constitution and does not use every trendy tragedy of the day to change it. That paper is why we have what we have. Why try to change it?

I feel MJ should be legalized and taxed like alcohol-tobacco. I feel that the harder narcotics such as cocaine, heroin, meth, LSD should stay illegal or be available only through a Doctor and only available to people who have been sent to rehab and taken other measures to quit, but have failed to. There are addicts that will shoot dope into their veins till the day it kills them, no matter what we say or do. Same as there are going to be people that drink themselves to death over time. Same as the obese person who knows with every bite of his Big Mac, another minute is deducted off the end of his life. Put them in a secure facility, and give them all the legal, cheap (if legal, it would be very cheap) dope they want. Gene pool clearance is good for everyone.

dansangel: Opinionated, aren't you?

viligantcitizen: Immigration, another policy that needs severe overhauling. First, I do very much believe in the idea of America. I do believe that any one can move to this country and make something of themselves. All of us come from immigrants at one point or another. However, allowing uncontrolled immigration to the point where the services that we citizens pay taxes for degenerate (like hospitals, schools), which is not fair to us.

dansangel: Oh no...I've created a monster....

viligantcitizen: Why can't there be reasonable quotas as to the number of immigrants per year can enter the country. Why are immigration laws already on the books not being enforced? Why is immigration being allowed to the point that whole areas of cities that used to be productive, valuable, desirable are now nothing but carbon copies of the 3rd world nations these people came from? Why is it Mexicans in particular are allowed unchecked but Germans and Canadians with jobs, money, and productive lives are scrutinized and go through hell to get legal. To me, the avoidance of discussion regarding immigration quotas by those in charge speaks volumes towards their real intentions, especially after 9-11.

That's all the onservatism that yours truly could take in one sitting my dear readers. Hope you appreciate the abuse that I suffer to bring you your dose of the Inquisitional Interview. Life can be really cruel sometimes....

Until the next Inquisition, please join me in welcoming another of FR's Finest...

viligantcitizen!

Congratulations, VC. Glad to see you survived the inquisition.

Now a few points to ponder...

Every thing in prospective

-It will take less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

-It took less time to find evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq, than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

- It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick.

-It will take less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida in the year 2000

"I've been meaning to tell you what a beautiful partner you've found in Robin. Also, we need to work on her to get her to sign up on FR!"

Thanks and I'll tell her you said that.

She is beautiful on the inside as well, and that is why I love her like I do. The world is full of attractive people with no souls.

As far as getting her to sign up on FR...she is not very computer literate, but I am working on that.

Speaking of beautiful, .45man is a very lucky person. ; ^ )>

By "wo weird," I meant "warrant officer weird," meaning that even one of our boys serving as a warrant officer in Iraq, and privy to much weirdness, would still find it weird.

Ms. Garofolo said to Bill O'Reilly that if she was wrong about the war, and she hoped she was and it wasn't long and brutal, she'd crawl on broken glass to the White House to ask for forgiveness.

Someone's got to find that tape and replay it.

Yes, I have. Billie's being very nice about me getting the text for tomorrow's profile to her late, which is just making me feel guilty!!

But things are slowing down and getting back to normal. Did you see any of the DC Rally on CSPAN? (It wasn't *our* rally, but we were one of the co-sponsors.) It was a beautiful spring weekend and there I was, in a crowd of normal, employed, patriotic Americans!! :) You don't get days like that much here in the big city! I was happy.

From that link . . .

Grilled Crow Breast

Breast out crows the same way you would a dove. Soak the breast in water with a tablespoon of salt for 30 minutes to draw out some of the blood. Marinate the breast for 20 minutes in Dale's Steak Sauce or other soy based sauce. Red wine also works well but needs to soak overnight. Drain off the marinade and place the breast on a hot grill with wet hickory chips andcook for 10 minutes on each side. Avoid over cooking as this tends to dry out the meat and toughen it. When cooked properly the meat cuts and looks like grilled venison.

Line the bottom and sides of the crock pot with slices of potato to keep the breast from touching the pot. Stack 24 breast which have been pre-soaked into the pot. Sprinkle one package of onion soup mix over the breast and add 1/2 cup of water. Cook on high setting for 2 hours and then reduce to low for 4 hours. The breast will be very tender done this was. If you like you can also add salt and pepper to taste and a real onion and diced stalk of celery.

Crow Stroganoff

Remove breast meat from the bone. Slice into strips about 1/2" thick. Place in a pressure cooker with several cloves of garlic, 1/2 cup diced onion, 3 cups of water, 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper, 1 teaspoon dried lovage leaves (can substitute 1/4 cup celery). Cook under pressure (10 pounds) for 30 minutes. Cool. Remove and discard garlic. Add broth from 4 oz. can of mushrooms. Adjust liquid to measure 3 cups. In a shaker mix 1/4 cup of flour with 1 cup cool broth. Heat remaining broth and add flour mixture; simmer until thickened. Add meat and mushrooms and bring to a simmer again. Just before serving, remove from heat and add 1/2 cup sour cream. Serve over noodles or rice. Recipe courtesy of Sara Jean Peters and Vince LaConte.

Fried Crow

Can either fry on the bone or filet the meat. To tenderize the meat you need to cook in a pressure cooker for 15 minutes at 10 pounds or boil in water with a tablespoon of salt until tender to being stuck with a fork. Remove the breast or filets from the pressure cooker or boiling pot. Flour and shallow fry in a pan until golden brown. The filets are great fun to pass off to your friends as chicken gizzards

Enjoy, Janeane Garafalo !! . . .
