I'd like to get some explanations on some things I keep hearing from the lib/dem/soc/commie group, as well as some quiet musings of my own, and I hope you'll be kind enough to oblige this query. ____________________________________________________

Great read!
The answer to your question lies in an ancient myth: what you refer to used to be known as 'the voice of the Sirens'; these mythological creatures had wonderful voices and sang out wonderful-sounding lies to passing mariners to draw them onto their island and their deaths.
Ulisses got around the problem by stuffing his sailors' ears with wax (so they would not be able to hear the song), and having himself strapped to a mast so he could listen but not follow what the song was telling him to do.
All the items you mention are the modern day equivalent of the sirens' songs: sounds good but is a deadly lie!

Could you be a bit more specific, please? What items in my editorial were "deadly lies"?

What I meant was that the things you rightly question (how can ...) of course 'can not'; those who support those views, or air those concepts, or endorse those ideas, are 'sirens'.
One example: pacifists say they are 'for peace' (= siren's song), some believe them and end up unwittingly endorsing 'deadly lies'. The lies are not deadly to sirens but those who believe their song and to innocents involved. 12 years of humanitarian (sic!) sanctions generated more dead Iraqis that US/UK war.

Doc, you posted this on the wrong website. You should post this on DU.

A post like that on DU would have the lifespan of a snowflake in a blast furnace, wouldn't it?
Well, what the hell - it might be worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey, funny thing. I tried to log on to DU, but they say that my posting privileges there have been revoked.
I can't imagine why.
If any of you folks still have access to DU, would you mind posting the link for me? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

bumpity bumpity !!
How can the news media be 'right wing' if the only real outlet for that is Rush Limbaugh? Don't ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, etc., counterbalance his broadcasts in any way?
How can Fox News be 'right wing' if they actually give BOTH sides of the story? Since the aforementioned media outlets only provide one side, what 'wing' might they be?
There are actually times when I scream at FOX News when they put some Pali supporter or Saddam supporter on the show as if they have legitimate arguments and they don't !!:
"Take them off ! Cut the mic !"

Anytime you see a news article and there is a mention of 'left wing', 9 out of 10 times you can bet there has been an airplane accident.
However, if you see a reference to 'Right Wing', you can bet they're talkin' about something beginning with 'Con' - Conspiracy or Conservative !

Have you ever noticed that, in an airline crash, if there is a structural failure of the port wing, the news media still finds a way to blame Reagan or Bush?
Just wondering...
