Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

And one last question before I hit the rack:
My computer and AOL have been acting utterly FREAKY ever since I started watching the BagCams about a week ago. I'm computer technology ignorant... but is it possible for these live streams to contain bugs that are messing up our computers?

Fox showing video footage people people driving around honking, throwing the peace sign, and dancing in the streets. This is F-ing amazing!

Exactly. That was my point earlier about the fedaheen being chewed up. If people feel bold enough to loot, that means that there's no fedaheen to stop them.

NO SADDAM!!! HA HA HA I LOVE THIS
Pack it in. Raid the UN!!
To: TomGuy
Shep is very proud of the guy and it shows! I think it's more about driving home the fact that these guys are just normal folks doing extraordinary things, laying their lives on the line, to protect *us*. That's what's amazing, and EVERYBODY should be proud of that guy, and every other brave man and woman out there fighting for us.

It's NOT a "peace" sign. That's a VICTORY sign.

"That'd probably be my item of choice if I lived under Saddam and his goons kicking mine in for 30 odd years. :)"
Good point :)
But even still, you'd think they'd go for gold toilet seats or silverware or SOMETHING besides a door. A door seems like so much work to loot, when you can just pick up other stuff and run. You know, I gotta give kudos to those guys racing the grand piano down the street the other day. THAT takes creativity :)

Hi five to 'em! One of them was carting away a bloodstained fridge, it looked like.
To: Tree of Liberty
anyone see the man on sky news hitting the image of Saddam? damn, I am almost in tears .. he's screaming in Arabic "He has killed millions of us" and hitting the poster of Saddam with his shoe.

No, but especially if you are using RealPlayer, it's a complete resource hog, and almost always will make your machine run poorly, and cause freaky crashes and what not.

LOL - I heard they were cutting out pieces of carpet from the Sheraton hotel... I guess they're out to reconstruct their homes before they refurnish them. Unless of course the gold stuff is hidden under their clothes so it's not looted back from them.

It seems a very calm sort of thievery. No knocking of heads and busting of windows.
To: thedugal
I agree, I think it's natural and cathartic for there to be healthy amount of looting. The UN is a perfectly deserving target, as it failed Iraq for 12 years.
I think the failure of the presstitutes is a combination of (1) half of them are anti-US and want to point to anything that can make this look like a bad thing and (2) they're hypersensitive to any remotely bad thing to the civilians, they act as if we swore to fight a war without using bullets and with no bloodshed.
No matter how much the US tiptoes through this bending over backwards to ensure that every Iraqi puppy gets three square meals a day, the media will dwell on anything bad they can find and spin it out of all proportion.

I may have to go to San Fran, then Vegas, but I'll check it out if I'm in town. Thanks.

One bad thing about the NTV cam is if that Saddam statue goes down the palm tree hides the important half of it, where the action will occur.I have been worried about this too, or that Baghdad Bob will pull the plugs so we can't see it.
But then I realized that by the time that statue comes down, at the hands of the Iraqi people themselves, Baghdad Bob and The Minders (band name) won't be anywhere near the place. So we will have all of those journalists from the hotel down in the circle, filming it up close and personal. It will be like the fall of the Berlin Wall... the liberation of the Jews in the concentration camps... it will be a very tearful event.
I can't wait !!
