Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!
Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...
The thing that bugs me, and I think bugs other people, is that the reporters seem to believe that their lives are more valuable than our soldiers, iraqi civilians, the rest of the planet, etc...
Bill O'Reilly was on the news pitching a college scholarship fund for David Bloom's kids. I liked David Bloom, I am sorry he passed. However, he is a journalist with mega bux, with very wealthy friends, who had a big insurance policy.
Bill O'Reilly was not pitching a relief fund for the spouses of 20 year old soldiers who left their pregnant wives behind, who get a knock on the door and a check for $50,000 in death benefits that is supposed to raise their kid for the next 18 years.
The press holds candlelight vigils for 3 journalists killed by tank fire, yet does not do the same for the 500,000 men Saddam let die in his foolish bid to attack Iran, nor for the Kurds he gassed, the 12 year old girls his son raped, the toddlers in jail, the victims of torture that is unspeakable.
Instead, they cover themselves as much as they do events. They get into petty squabbles about which team is covering the war better. They argue about press coverage, press restrictions, press freedoms, press bias, press equipment, press access to POW PFC Lynch, and they wonder why it starts to leave a sour feeling in our stomach.
You press people are not the news. You are not more important than a marine, and you don't believe me when I say this, but it is true.
A member of the media has a job, just like a mechanic, a trucker, a computer programmer, or an investment banker.
The bright lights hollywood syndrome have infected your way of thinking so much, that you don't even realize how absurd it is, when we watch live feeds of Richard Engle mussing with his hair while spinning the most anti-us slant possible on the reporters killed story, (which was so important, that you didn't have time to give news on what was going on in the battle zones).
Grow up some, and we will grow softer in our hearts towards you. I don't believe people really don't care about the hurt journalists family feel when they fall, they just are tired of y'all making the news be so much about you.
Sorry for the long rant folks. Had to get this off my chest.
