Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Lots of people are now learning about propaganda. The very obvious Iraqi propaganda and the more subtle (not to us, of course) propaganda of our elitest media represented by CNNBCABCBS.

John Galt is making his speech on the radio near the end of the book. I think he's about thru.
To: oceanview
O'Reilly said there are links on his site. Also, www.operationuplink.org is run by the VFW. They donate phone cards to the troops and vets.

I would be very careful giving money to charities. Many will just pocket the money. I haven't seen one of these links.
To: ztiworoh
though her anti-religious nature bothers me sometimes It bothers me as well. There have been some very interesting threads here debating the feasibility of being both a religous person and an objectivist.

Hi all. I can't believe all the messages here today and am not going to have time to read them all.
Just wanted to pass along a funny regarding Tommy Franks today. When the war first started, a retired army coworker (Desert Storm Vet)said to me that he had concerns about the war because Franks was weak and almost relieved from his duties during Desert Storm because of it.
I have been harassing him ever since but today I had the pleasure of telling him that "Frank's sure looks brave to me, driving through the middle of Baghdad and taking it over took guts, not to mention military brilliance."
He blushed and agreed. It made my day!
To: TheLion
Yes, you are correct, but there must be some honest charities out there doing this. Anyone have a link to the page listing these on the oreilly site, I can't find anything.

You could have read the first 10 pages of the speech and skipped the last, what, 50 and gotten the jist. The end gets a little wierd but doesn't detract. Enjoy.
To: Wyatt's Torch
Well, I think Rand goes to the extremes in her writing to make a point, for me, Ive found religion to be a VERY individual experience and one that has helped me to succeed, so I could assume it is objectivist in that sense; I am devoutly Catholic, but recent events have proven that the Church as an organization has its flaws, as does anyother group of humans, be they political, religious, or for other purposes.
Blindly following the group and forgetting the religion is quite possibly the worst thing a person can do for their spiritual life, as they begin to worship the men who run the earthly organization and not the faith behind that organization, so in that sense, it is possible to be a religious objectovist because my religion is of my personal choice and I follow an inner faith above any earthly group
To: oceanview
I would tend to trust the one's that O'Reilly is linking. He will probably make sure they follow-up!
To: Merdoug
that's my favorite book. it's a life changing eye opener for many.

There are a bunch of AS screen names. Several versions of Galt, Francisco, Owen Kellog, and many others. Not too surprising given the "slant" of this forum.
To: tame
" I switched over to MSNBC for a moment--They had a BEAUTIFUL two minute tribute to the days events--not kidding, I started to cry!"
Has any network announced whether they are going to produce a video of the highlights of their embedded reporters? I imagine the troops would enjoy seeing some of their handiwork, once they are back with their families, showered and rested. I hope Fox News does this, with all or a portion of the proceeds, going to the families of those who gave their lives for this action.
