Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Saddam believed he wasn't taken out in the first Gulf War because of our unwillingness to die or kill.Yes, that is the perception Saddam got.
Fortunately, going through the U.N. to remove him after he broke every agreement he ever signed (something the left always ignores), is a mistake GW learned watching his father.
His father did exactly what the UN wanted. And 12 years later they proved they were inept. I think that's now a positive.

Those shots last night were pretty impressive though, especially the bomb drop from the F-14. The hotel shot happened right when I was reaching over to turn my computer off. I heard this big ass explosion and left it on, and turned the tv back on.

That's what he said. Take EVERYTHING that guy says with a grain of salt though (if he says the sky's blue, look out a window to make sure). He writes for The Nation, I believe.

Bingo. If asked, I'd bet half the reporters in that hotel could remember the names of any of the allied troops who were killed so far.

I have to say I believe you are really off base on this one. As I said, ignoring the predictable junk in the article --- simply reading past those passages --- pretty much the whole article is what I consider a positive statement - though the libs could well paint those same items as negative --- and I welcome that difference in interpretation. His last two paragraphs require similar interpretation - adjust what he says there by taking into account it reflects his antiAmerican anticapitalist bias, and the prognosis becomes positively rosy... much to his chagrin.

(had to give them something to look at while i dig for more men in uniform)there was a pic on DU last night of a whole line of naked British troopers taking a shower. They called it the naked butt pic, I think. Since it was DU, mostly guys were looking at it...you gals would've liked that one.

I heard a jerk reporter on some news program say, "well, military personnel we expect to lose".
While he's correct, he was so cavalier about it.

It's close to the bewitching hour of 1:00 am. Seems like it always picks up about this time.

Heads down, shoulders slumped - leaving the war, quitting.
Walking quickly - in a specific direction/jaywalking, or heads up and panning and looking around, defiant, tense: going to war. Look at photos of troops in the landing gear going into D-Day, or marching forward in WWII.

Yep, I've noticed that too

Yeah, I was watching live and then stepped away for a moment, then I came back and heard about the hotel shot... later on the NTV Bagcam they had video of the shot as seen from the hotel.
To: seamole
Cameras look a lot like rifles. They're black, round, they have lenses, and they're aimed.
Reporters in the Holy Land have learned not to slink behind Israeli units taking shots. I understand .. but he made it sound like maybe the commander didn't really hear any shots fire ..
These guys are in the military .. I'm guessing they KNOW what a gun shot sounds like
