Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

"Their not the story! Move on..."
EXACTLY! This is exactly what I emailed them. I do regret the loss of any innocent life over there...BUT, the actions after the incident is way over the line. Saying our military is targeting western journalist is too much for me. I don't need a lecture from Shep.

USAF offloading heavy armor, (M1 Abrams tanks) in north Iraq with 173rd Airborne Earlier media report (I'm channel switching, so don't recall whether Fox or MSBC) said a company of tanks. That's around 12-14 - just enough to provide some mobility and firepower. Remember the word earlier today saying we had virtually wiped out their armor.
To: Mrs.Liberty
I agree Shep was responding to e-mails saying the reporters deserved to die or something equally silly. The reporter did not deserve to die.
But they were in the way of combat. I agree with Howlin that the embeds would likely have fired too.

I was just saying to my husband before reading this post that of all the Fox reporters, I've been worrying this most about Rick. He sounds very, very stressed -- for good reason, of course. (Maybe Greg and Ollie having military experience helps them in this situation.) Rick's been doing an awesome job but I wish he could catch a rest somewhere for a while.

Batchelor and Alexander are almost the Art Bell of the political scene. They could be right, but it's not something I'd want to have to bet the house on. The Loftus claim also doesn't mesh with news reports that they heard Saddam in the restaurant talking about how to escape Baghdad after he got there.

...probably extremely jealous of the males "firm buns". A Bun Lady
LOL... one of the memorable times of my life was when I was shopping at the base commissary in my well-fitting flight suit, and a lady had the moxie to come up to me and say, "you really great butt..." and propositioned me. I suspect I turned a few different shades... LOL

The embeds are spending quality time with real Americans (a new experience for Liberal embeds) while the non-embeds are wallowing amongst themselves in the hardship of a luxury hotel experience the agony of opulence.

Jets overhead. Not hearing any payload drops today. Are we just consolidating, or running out of targets?
To: umbagi
"We didn't say "Screw those journalists"..."
Apparently SOMEONE said that and I don't doubt they said it. I've seen the same thing said here on other threads a few times. He's responding to EMAILS he's getting, not to the freerepublic thread.
To: Tree of Liberty
Yes, it's nice not to miss Laurie. Laurie and Heather and Jennifer, oh my!
To: Fracas
Another story will come along to replace this one. I hope you're right... I'd hate to see Fox rest on its laurels and decide that the journalists are "what it's all about."

Really, that's your nephew? Wow.
The brother of one of my 11-year-old's teachers (also in Orange County) is flying bomb-dropping missions...she is very proud and very anxious, as you must be.
To: FirstFlaBn
I do believe my nephew, a C17 Crew Chief, is participating in this, then. He was flying last week when the 173rd parachuted.
To: nicollo
I misread you. If you had been here in person, I'm sure I would have caught the tone in your voice.

He's making the point that officials of the Iraqi military are there with them. He's not saying ingore it. He's saying keep it in mind I have kept it in mind. All the reporters I've heard today were saying they didn't hear a single shot coming from the hotel. However, the on-scene commanders reported they were taking "significant fire" from the hotel. I posted a picture of a sniper's nest on a building on the west side of the Tigris. The tankers said the whole area was a sniper's nest.
Who do you believe?
To: Slip18
*checks between legs* yep!
