What about INDIRECT assassination attempts?
Did we not learn anything from the Clinton years? Probably about the only good thing that Bubba did was to do a Finding on Pres. Ford's executive order that it only applied to heads of state. Were it not for this finding, Clinton couldn't have shot those "Monica Missles" at Sudan in 98.

It would be interesting to know what W.'s doing at this moment, now about 4:40 AM in Northern Ireland. I'd have to think he explicitly ordered the strike, and probably knew more about its potential for success by 6:00 PM Northern Ireland (or 1:00 EDT) time than MSNBC knew eight hours later. Heck, they probably let him sleep.
The next meeting with Blair, I assume within 4 or 5 hours, should be interesting. If this report is true, we have less reason than ever to allow the UN a major post-war role. And I do think it's true; that's not the kind of info "highly placed sources" leak, unless they're pretty sure.

I was wondering how, if Qatar is East of Baghdad, it could be an hour earlier than Baghdad time. It appears that the answer is that Baghdad observes Daylight Savings Time, while Qatar does not. See
Baghdad time and
Qatar time.

I am watching this cleanup of the bomb site. Sorta looks like a mini-version of the WTC, don't it?

My guess is they are already 99% certain he is dead, but you will NOT hear any top US figures say anything official for some days. They will NOT need to find a body or DNA to confirm it. We will be able to tell in lots of other ways. They are starting to back away from it already and urging caution. Noting that there aren't desperate search efforts underway. Frankly, to me the crater does look that big.
I dunno. What have you read about the bunkers? Saddam seen them in Yugoslavia and liked them:
"We built all of these facilities in Iraq because they liked what they saw here," Fazlic said, citing a large bunker dug into a mountain near the southern Bosnian town of Konjic that was meant for the former Yugoslav government in case of war.
"...It was a little bit more difficult in Iraq because of the flat terrain. But you would use a valley, dig at the bottom of a hill, build a bunker and than cover it so it can't be spotted from outside."
"But before that, it would have to go through protective layers ... and to calculate all the right angles for impact and fire several successful hits in line is almost impossible..." --- retired Lieutenant Colonel Resad Fazlic
I have repeadetly heard them described as "egg" shaped 30 feet underground and nearly impentrable for conventional weapons. They were designed for nuke strikes.

Maybe this is a stupid question but where did the B2s come from that delivered the coup de grace? I heard that their sorties from the US take 36 hours roundtrip, so that would not be quite a "time sensitive" attack. Maybe there are some closer to Iraq?
To: Smogger
I was kind of hoping they'd secretly stick a low-jack up his butt (disguised as his body guard's you-know-what) then trail him off to the next country, THEN bomb him silly.

A lot of these commentators on FOX are really skeptical that Saddam could have been in that house...they think it was a trick, and that he is escaping.
