NEAR BAGHDAD, April 7 (AFP) - US Marines in Iraq have discovered bomb-making facilities at a facility described as a training camp operated by the a faction of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), a military spokesman said Monday.

Bomb-making facilities, chemicals, mortars, gas masks and AK-47s were found inside the 20-building complex to the east of Baghdad, said Public Affairs Officer Corporal John Hoellwarth.

The complex, which was the size of a battalion headquarters, featured pictures of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, PLF faction leader Abu Abbas and the PLF's flag, Hoellwarth added.

Other photos included pictures of Abu Abbas posing with a brigadier general from Saddam's Republican Guard inside the camp.

Boxes of documents with PLF letterheads were also seized.

Stores of fresh food including fresh tomatos and potatos were seen, indicating that the complex had recently been vacated.

Followers of Abu Abbas carried the deadly attack in 1985 on the cruise ship Achille Lauro, but renounced terrorism after the 1993 Oslo peace accords between Israel and Palestinians.

Abbas had been based in Tunisia but was more recently thought to be based in Baghdad.

Gore has already postioned himself with the "I would not have started this war, I would have let the inspectors do their job" speech. He and Hillary are positioning themselves for the 04 ticket...

I think there's an opening for you at the Iraqi minestry of information.

Well, considering that most of the "Palestinians" in the territories came from somewhere else (Arafat himself was born and raised in Egypt), the concept of a "Palestinian nation" is a myth. Before the Jews arrived in large numbers and made the land prosper, developed a society, an economy, this land was a wasteland. Not even the Arabs wanted it, really.

I just wrote you a long explanation and apologized and hit the wrong button and it went to the lost in computer land bucket--I am sorry because in 6 years I have never been rude, but there has been so much evidence of WMD that I have zero doubt we will find them. Once Saddam is verified dead and most of his goons gone, people will start talking and we will carefully unearth them and then test them in the US. That will take time and the main focus right now must be clearing out the remnants of Saddam's regime and helping Iraq set up a provisional govt. Bush has been underestimated over and over again. He took a risk during the midterm elections so that we could take the Senate back against all odds and he is not going to sit around after this war. I have the utmost respect for his leadership because he has earned it. He is not his father politically, just morally. He knows what the dems did to his dad by saying a tax hike must be passed--look at what he has accomplished with constant criticism coming from the left. Saddam didn't fight the inspectors for 12 years because he had nothing to hide. He could have destroyed the WMD in front of them and been left alone as most of the UN were perfectly content to let him keep torturing and murdering his own people. And I am sorry I sounded snippy!

Of what possible relevance is this to our quest for Iraqi oil and Jewish supremacy?

Hmmm, the only link to Israel is the terrorist group kills them. I think you have a drug problem, called Islam.

We will have to have the marines back down on this one. After all they are Palestinians and get a Allah Allah income free card. No terrorism is too bad for an Arab from Israel.

No apology needed! I think you have made very good points, and are probably correct. The real search for WMD won't occur till after the war. I just wish the military would quit being so eager to label every suspicious steel drum as sarin etc. It looks bad when it turns out to not be the case. My lingering worry is this...who would have thought at the end of the first Gulf War that Bush Sr, with an approval rating of 90%, would lose the election a year later and the US would get stuck with 8 years of Clinton? I worry (yes I do that well) that we are being set up again. A popular prez with a successful war will lose because of economic concerns on the home front and we will be burdened with 8 years of Gore/Hillary. This is nightmare fodder!! Thanks.

Give me a break. It ain't Noonan's fault that Bush Sr LIED. It ain't Noonan's fault that Bush Sr. chose to believe his advisors at the time and the Republican leadership in the house that thought it was kewl to raise taxes. I remember Quayle's spirited dissent on this matter and how he eventually agreed to the tax increase to keep the Republican party together. That's when I think about the "baneful spirit of party" as being deadly accurate. If anything, W has learned from his fathers' mistakes, which one of the big ones was a failure to embrace supply-side economics.

Yes, I agree with most of what you said. But it was Noonan who came up with that catchy one liner that Bush used ad nauseum during the campaign. It made for a perfect sound bite for the Dems four years later. Noonan had no control over what Bush did, of course. But it shows how clumsy Bush was on domestic issues.

And where are the WMD?

Patience, grasshopper. Perhaps Saddam has hidden his WMD. Iraq is a big place, and it might take a while to find the goods. Have you not seen the reports that the river water around Baghdad is testing positive for mustard gas and sarin? Sounds like a lot of the stuff is being dumped into the river, among other things.

Thanks for the reply. It is a good bet they will find something, I just wish the US army quits giving preemptive news conferences before they know for sure.

It's a play on words. Sometimes my satire is too subtle. The point is, many opposed to the war claim that the war is REALLY about oil, or is an elaborate Zionist conspiracy. On this theory, WMD would be totally irrelevant to the REAL reasons we're fighting.

Sorry if I confused anyone. And I am especially sorry if anyone mis-read my comments as being anti-semitic. Nothing could be further from the truth.

No doubt. 20 buildings and enough weapons & materiel to fill several warehouses mean nothing to the libs and mainstream muslims that choose to minimize/rationalize terrorism.

And yet, 3 guns and 300 rounds of ammo found in a house in the US is a huge cache according to the left!

If you could provide a link to the part of the resolution that authorized force against Iraq in regards to the Achille Lauro bombing, I would apreciate it.

Otherwise, you just keep proving Bushs' critics correct that this was/is a war looking for a justification.
