This may get thrown in Chat but I thought it was great !

"..."Retired military people from various grades, from major to general, seem to feel free to comment on a plan that they have never seen or have any understanding of"..."

This is the better line in the story.

Having SEEN and
LISTENED TO
and been
SPLATTERED by similar on top of the Milk Bucket lid (more times than I'd have preferred by far)
such a performance
. . . no way I could read without robust laughter.
I think he's got it right.
And just prior to reading this one--I was listening to some FOX commentator drone on and on about special forces this and that with some Congressional Committee member . . . and thinking to myself--they sure have to fill the air time with a lot or drivel, don't they.
Still, Fox does better than most.
Wasteland, indeed.
I wonder what McLuen (sp?) would say nowadays. He is dead, isn't he?

I'm amused by the way they critique it, but in the end, it's a whole lot like listening to a cow pee on a flat rock. It just doesn't matter."How in tarnation do they come up with this stuff! LOL!

I was watching the news conference. He was on the phone with reporters gathered at the Pentagon. It was quite funny and a number of the reporters even laughed at it. Although the fellow that asked the question didn't seem amussed.
It seems the retired "arm chair" generals and privates the networks are getting to comment on the war, have only marginally more information to base their comments upon than a number of the "key board commando's" that post here on FR.
All in all, it is becoming quite amussing, as neither group really seemm to know what they are talking or writing about.

There's also the:
"It's raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock."
and
"Covering as much ground as a cow pissing on a flat rock."

The irony of staff officers having to spout this drivel to pick up a few extra bucks and salve their inflated egos.
Some have an axe to grind or not so hidden agenda.

There are many great things about this war but one of the greatest (perhaps THE greatest in terms of our national survival) is the defeat of a bunch of old-school generals who wanted to gear up to fight Vietnam all over again.
It's a cliche that generals always want to fight the last war.
Well, not General Franks. And not Mr. Rumsfeld. They looked ahead into the future and brought a new visionary strategy against a new kind of global threat.
The old-style generals are fuming because they actually yearn for the days of slow escalation, quagmire, and endless war.
And Rummy didn't let them have their way. So they stomp their goutish feet and carp and complain.
Meanwhile, the swiftest, most brilliant military campaign in history unfolds in front of their stupid faces.

Things That Took Longer Than Iraq War Will
Here are a few certainties you can count on, my friends, courtesy of the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-feeling, all-everything Maha Rushie. -We're going to take Iraq in less time than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.
-It took less time to find evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq, than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
-It took Teddy Kennedy longer to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick, than it took the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard.
-We're going to take Iraq in less time than it took to count the votes in Florida in the year 2000!

Such precise language is expected from our brilliant, brave heroes. He does make a point. Who can listen to the military 'experts' on TV ever again without hearing the 'water' hit the rock? LOL

Vietnam taught us that the media wars are damned important, and the retireds, with the notable exception of Clark, are a damn sight better than when we got our analysis and information only through the Dan Rathers and the Peter Arnetts. In fact they make it impossible to spend one second listening to some ass like Peter Jennings.
