Pat Robertson stirs up debate (Islam is not a peaceful religion)

PRINCETON BOROUGH - The Rev. Pat Robertson spoke from the lectern at Princeton University last night like it was his pulpit, calling students to stand up for their moral convictions and not be swayed by popular culture.

His hair is all gray now, he had surgery in February and is recovering from prostate cancer, but the evangelist showed no signs of wavering last night when he spoke at the invitation of a student group.

I already came to the same conclusion and left in search of "lighter" topics.

The pots & the kettles, indeed..

There is enough hatred, intolerance, and ignorance in the name of religion in this thread to power half a dozen good Jihads.

The fact that I see Islam for what it is has nothing to do with my religion. For all the debate we've had here, I still don't see how this country is better for letting the Islamics in.

Smarter immigration policies and we would still have the two towers in New York, 3,000 Americans would still be alive, and 250,000 Americans (many of them my close friends and family) would not be crawling in the desert of some God foresaken land.

Why are 3 of my brothers in Iraq right now risking their lives to protect us when our government still allows crazies of the type that attacked us on 9/11 into this country every day? Muslims in Iraq do not worry me, Muslims in the US do.

I've been away for a few days, visiting the house that the Mouse built. It was a refreshing break from this crap.

Let me tell you what I've come to believe.

Religion is intended to be a personal thing between one, and one's God. The moment you allow anyone else to stand in a pulpit, a street corner, a television studio, or anywhere else telling you what God wants you to do, that personal relationship is gone.

In a time of war, when our troops are in harm's way in a completely non-religious war, Pat Robertson and his ilk are looking to elevate the already volatile emotions and raise the stakes.

Not that Pat will put his ass on the frontline, in the way of some insane Baathist with a grenade launcher and the realization that his days are numbered...no, not Pat and his ilk.

Pat wants to make tough thougher for our troops by rabble rousing back home from behind a TV camera.

Pat needs to shut up and pray for the safe return of our men and women, not to provide sound bytes for some counterpart of his in a Mosque somewhere.

Now, if Pat should decide to go lead the Third ID into the battle for Baghdad...I'll take it all back.

"Letting the Islamics in"?

There have been Muslims on this soil since shortly after the Revolutionary times.

I personally don't give a rat's ass about what religion you believe should be banned from this nation...I stand with the Constitution.

Regarding your post 343....thank you for what you have said here...

I have been reading this thread the whole time it has been running, but have declined to comment, just watching the whole show go on and on and on...

Seen posters running the whole gamut, from near hysteria, to those on a very even keel...

You, and others like you, have posted the more rational thoughts, expressing better than myself, what I feel...

Thanks...

I guess slavery isn't in the history book you have been reading. Or do you believe that slavery never happened and was just made up by the liberal media.

You are right, but of the immigrants that make it to America people like him are a very, very small percentage. I work with many talented people from around the world, including middle easterners, who want nothing more than what many of us want; a safe place to live, worship as we wish, and raise a family.

I have never understood why Pat speaks for ANYBODY, other than his own church members. He sure doesn't speak for me or anybody I know; I wouldn't even want to belong to a religion that refuses to deal in reality.

And some of his "followers" are no less culpable of smearing ALL Muslims by the acts of a few than the fanatical Muslims are of judging all Americans by what they perceive as injustices done to them.

In short, "our" fanatics are no better than "their" fanatics.

Where has Pat Robertson called for martyrs to murder women and children?

Where are the evangelical suicide bombers?

I don't agree with everything Robertson says, not do I pay him a lot of attention... but seriously, "our fanatics" don't hold a candle to Islam's.

"The prototype Jihadist? Look around...he's in here."

Are you dialing out from your rubber-room again??

What a ridiculous statement.

To make it known that the Koran declares that all the world should be brought under subjugation to government based on its tenents only, which declare that Jews and Trinitarians (Christians) must accept it or be killed, is not hatred. It is telling the truth in love.

Great...another armchair Koran expert.

It also says in the Bible that Christ will destroy all those who do not believe in Him, and reign over a perfect Kingdom...one where no other beliefs exist.

Are we not as Christians expected to surrender our lives to His will?

I'm surprised at you; you're perfectly willing to trash the Constitution because you don't like Muslims?

It's not necessary to trash the First Amendment to make Muslims feel unwelcome -- all that's needed is to get rid of the PC "anti-discrimination" legislation that's been implimented since the 1960's. Private individuals are perfectly capable of making Muslims feel unwelcome without government assistence. Also, we need to eliminate immigrants (illegal and otherwise) being eligible for welfare, public housing, and Medicaid. Any immigrant who can't hold a job (a group of Somalis in Maine come to mind) should be shipped back home

When a religious act exceeds the law, then we have our laws to protect us. There is no need to ban any specific religion in this country. Only specific behavior needs to be banned.

Certain viewpoints are currently bad for your career. As an experiment, try telling people at work that you've just been elected Grand Dragon of your local Klan chapter and see how fast Human Resources develops a deep interest in you culminating in your being escorted off the grounds. A similar thing will happen if you let it be known that you're in "Christian Identity" movement (but since it's technically a religion, they would have to be more careful)

What's needed is for "Fundamentalist Islam" to be at least as unacceptable in American public and private life. It will be a PR struggle more than a political struggle

I don't think this is true of the majority of Muslim immigrants to this country. I believe that the majority of them are anti-American.

Truth is to make America safe we either have to wage war on 30 different Muslim countries one by one, or we can have a smarter immigration policy. I choose the latter. We have 250,000 of our finest over in Iraq right now, many of those troops are my friends and family, bring them back here and put a stop to Muslim immigration. Fact is Saddam can't touch us unless there are Muslims in this country, it's not like he's gonna launch a missle at us. The Muslims in this country are more trouble than they are worth, and their religion is one of hatred and violence (despite what Bush says).
