New Georgia Flag Won't Whistle Dixie
ATLANTA, April 4, 2003
The proposed Georgia state flag (AP)
The new design comes from an unlikely corner, Rep. Bobby Franklin, a conservative Republican. He was once a strong supporter of the Confederate battle emblem, but has changed his mind.
The current Georgia state flag, adopted in 2001, sharply reduced the size of the Confederate emblem.
(AP) After months of debating Georgia's flag, state lawmakers struck a surprise compromise Friday an entirely new flag that echoes an old Confederate flag but does not include the divisive Dixie battle emblem.

Any Southerner with a little historical background could spot this flag a mile away. My gg grandpappy (46th Georgia Infantry 1861-1865) would be proud.
Deo Vindice!

Like I said in a previous thread, it's one that I could accept but only after we vote on it. I prefer the Confederate Battle Flag.

Walt doesn't like it. So I guess it will be fine with me.

This proposed flag looks pretty nice, and seems like a damn good compromise.

All you neo-Confederates out there, during the 1860s, my ggrandpappy was a cannoneer in the Austrian-Hungarian Army. Therefore, no one had better insult the Emperor, the Austrian-Hungarian Empire or its flag!

Tis flag wont work it has "In God we trust" on it. Im sure the ACLU is fixing to go after them.

And sticks right up the craw of the ACLU. A beautiful combo of Southern colors and our national motto. It reconciles the South with the founding of America.

Nice flag.

Add "Deo Vindice" to it and it would be perfect, but will the NAACLP cry about this Confederate flag too? (Just a Texan's 2 cents worth).

The neo-Confederates will also oppose "In God We Trust", since it first appeared on U.S. currency during the Civil War.

Look up the Star Bangled Banner; the words are there.
To: safisoft
I think
Kiss My Ass
would be a lot better than
In God We Trust
Or else return to the pre '56 flag that Confederate Veterans seemed perfectly happy to live under for their whole lives.
Just one opinion, and it's not my flag.

I'm referring to the motto on U.S. currency.

Call it history's revenge. The South is now more viscerally American than the Yankees. Just who do you think is serving on the front lines in Iraq now? Why the sons of the South!
To: goldstategop
Good point, but don't forget that the South also gave us LBJ, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. And Al Gore too.
To: Grand Old Partisan
It also gave George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Woodrow Wilson, James Polk, etc, etc.

Thanks Ambrose. I like the one from 1956 to 2001, but I won't have to live under it anyway.
To: safisoft
At least this one doesn't look like it was created in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop (though I'm sure it was). Plus it has "In God We trust" on it, which will piss off much of the same consitutuency that ginned up the "controversy" over the old flag.
I can live with it. But it's a Georgian matter anyway. I'm not going to pretend my feelings have any relevance like all the leftists did sending in their complaints from New Jersey and Montana.
