Patriot Rally, Cincinnati, Ohio
Posted on 04/03/2003 2:27:17 PM PST by Ryan Ruck
Well, for my first posting after being a long time lurker, I would like to invite anyone in the Cincinnati area to join myself and others for a Patriot Rally on Fountain Square!
Were nothing huge (yet! ;-) ). We have no special speakers or anything. It will just be carrying signs and flags and showing our support for the troops and President Bush for people downtown.
What will make this even better is the fact that there will be anti-war protestors on the Square as well! Since they are going to be there, it motivated me to post this notice here after 2 prior Saturdays of having only 10 people down there. I would love to see as many people join us as possible to counter them.
I would have posted a notice about this earlier but, we just got the permit worked out.
Bring all the flags, signs, and friends that you can! One thing though
As per Cincinnati rules, there may be no sticks or poles on the signs and no vulgarities on them (not that anyone here would use any).
Also, if possible, we would like to have someone bring a small stereo system so that we are able to play our CD of patriotic music. The tiny boom box that we have been using just wont cut it, especially if the antis are going to be down there too. Because of the permit, we have access to the electrical outlets downtown so it does not have to be battery powered. So, if someone wants to confirm that they can bring one, please post so on this thread.
Come and join us at Fountain Square on Saturday from 12 PM-6 PM (you dont have to be there the whole time!) and help show your support! If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or e-mail me at ruck@fuse.net. Hope to see you there!
P.S. I hope I posted everything alright for my first post! ;-)

Well Ryan... how many anti-war people do you expect down there?
I live on the West Side of Cincinnati.... Green Township.

maybe you should try to contact a local radio station or personality to help you spread the word! Country stations maybe -
Good luck!

Honestly, I have no idea.
All that I know is that they will be there since the Department of Public Services said that there would be a group there "with an opposing viewpoint" at the same time.
In fact, the person who approved the permits tried to dissuade us from getting one for that weekend. I didnt appreciate that

I would call and e-mail 55krc AM Station and see if they would give you a bump.
Just make it sound like you're organized.

I thought about that.
I most likely would have done that earlier in the week if there hadnt been the tie-up in the paperwork.
Perhaps for next weekend I will get in touch with some media.

It's not too late Ryan. I didn't ask our local radio station to announce my rally until Fri and they were glad to do it. Sometimes it's best for the message to go out the day before. That way people won't forget. Send e-mails to all the local talk radio stations. Send e-mails to all local and state elected officials. Politicians love to get before a crowd. Does one of your local banks have a scrolling ad sign? Ours put up the announcement for the rally. Be sure to send e-mails to local newspapers telling them what you intend to do. Do the same for all the TV stations. My little rallies (two) were covered by TV both week-ends because I sent them an e-mail. It doesn't take much time to send e-mails and they are very effective in getting coverage. News people are always looking or a story. Good luck. Eagles Up! Oh, and welcome to Free Republic.

Okay, Ive gotten a little more information on the group of peace protestors that will be down on Fountain Square.
They refer to themselves as the Seven Hills Students Against the War. They are claiming that they will have 400 people in attendance (guess they are using the CNN crowd estimation method!). They are planning on using the stage area and a PA system. And they will, of course, have their own signs.
They are also inviting people to share their thoughts and express their opinions on the war in Iraq. No specification that your thoughts must agree with them so, perhaps this is a chance for some to have a little fun and enlighten some of them! ;-)

Ryan, I just told Timestax about this and he said he will try to be there tomorrow. I will post a link on the Ohio page if you haven't already done so.
