Just overheard a CNN reporter (Nic Robertson?)reporting that folks inside Baghdad tell him that Iraqi government officials are driving around near the airport, using loudspeakers to urge civlians to leave their houses and go toward the airport to fight the infidels. According to Robertson's sources, people are acutually heading out there...

The people are going to run to the airport so they can surrender, and then Saddamites will shoot them in the back and blame it on America.

I just finished reading "The Last Battle" by Cornelius Ryan ("The Longest Day" and "A Bridge Too Far"), and the parallels between Hitler's defense of "Fortress Berlin" and Saddam (or the body double formerly known as...) are amusing for their similarity.

Poor citizens. They are asked to fight for a bunch of pussies who hide behind women and children. I hope when this is over, the people of Iraq do to top Iraqi government officials what the Italians did to Mussolini.

I'm afraid at this juncture blaming it on the Americans is irrelevant to these jackels. It's about bloody retribution for toppling the regime. That's a far worse motivation from our perspective, I fear.

I just got off the phone with my brother who is an army vet and was in the '91 gulf war. Sgt. Major. He said a lot of things which made sense. He said an embedded reporter on (CNN) took note that almost all the dead enemy he has seen on the sides of the road are not Iraqi. But foreigners. My brother said that made sense because the Iraqi people were not this vicious in the '91 gulf war. My brother said he feels the Iraqi troops don't have much inclination to fight us and the dead bodies are radicals from other countries. He also said Iraqis have not used chem. weapons on us yet because we are too dispersed and they don't have a good target. They also have to weigh the benefits of world opinion as well as what they gain, and we have hurt their delivery system a lot. He believes they turned the power off to cause civilians to suffer and blame us and he said "You just wait and see what these leaders do to cause the civilians to suffer. They had hoped we would cause a lot of civilians injuries and deaths. Now they will try their best to do so and blame us."

The truth is the "pause" reports were factually correct. I suggest you take a look at the War Tracker on the CNN website. Just as General Franks said, there was no pause. For example, strike sorties were unchanged between 3/29 and 4/1, and actually increased on 4/2. During the same period, total sorties rose substantially from 1500 to 1900. On land, according to CNN on April 1 "U.S. forces have started a major ground offensive against at least two Republican Guard divisions -- the Medina and Baghdad -- south of the Iraqi capital. U.S. forces are engaging Iraqi Republican Guard troops in a major fight in Karbala, according to a Pentagon official." The pause was a media contrivance.

Saw a report on PMSNBC with a reporter still in Baghdad (works for ITV). The Iraqis were taking him to Saddam International to prove to him that we didn't have control of the airport. On the way their, they came under fire from artillery near the airport and had to take cover. When it was clear they wouldn't be getting any closer, they turned tail. That 100 mile ranged artillery can be a beatch.

I would give anything to see the supposed 5,000 suicide bombers all lined marching down the road towards or troops, each has his body-bomb ready to fire, tail end charlie stumbles, grabs next guy in front and accidentally triggers his explosive device, the rest go off like a line of dominoes one after another, LMAO
