Marshall University's scholarship offer has one difference on paper

(from the West Virginia U. free ride offer in accordance with the GI Bill)

According to the news release, Marshall University plans to pay for Lynch to continue her education with Graduate School

The decision on both schools part was based on her passion for education.

'We at Marshall were so relieved that Jessica was rescued and now safe,' Dan Angel, Marshall University President, said, according to a news release.

'We were also very touched after hearing of Jessica's desire to continue her education.'

Only one problem with the offer from Marshall. Their grad
school offers no where near the level of academic excellence
or course of study selection that WVU does.

I hope Marshall's offer is genuine, but it may be a case of
publicity one upmanship against their in state college
competition.

As much as I object to women in combatant roles, or anywhere near combat, as a POW she paid for her education---in blood.

Some states do not offer "financial assistance" to former POWs, they offer a scholarship instead.

Perhaps I am reading the offer of financial assistance wrong ("come to school and we will allow you to get into a low interest debt"), but I think not.

Ha ha this is great!

Yesterday, WVU offered "financial assistance in coordination of her military benefits". I took this to mean, they'd let the GI Bill pay for most (or all, not sure how much tuition is) of the bill.

Nice to see Marshall upping the ante. :o)

Yeah, WVU said that they would cover anything not in her GI Bill.

I was thinking the same thing. What type of medal will they be eligible for?

There are 11 that were snatched with her and their fate has yet to be revealed.

If she's going to be an education major, what difference does it make?

I hope she sets her academic sights a little higher.

No difference really, but in the Mountain State, the
sheep skin from WVU is more respected and valued by
employers.

One of my beefs with the State of West Virginia is
that it tries to run and maintain over ten state financed
institutions of higher learning while it has a population
of only 1.8 million people. Pork barrell politics and
tax supported inefficiency at its best.

Unfortunately for this heroic soldier, she will more
than likely have to leave the state to find employment
as a teacher upon her graduation. K-12 enrollment decreases
state wide every year causing school districts to lay
off teachers.
