ZOA Protests College Campus Lectures By Bishop Tutu, Who Has Compared Israel To Nazi Germany
Zionist Organization of America ^ | April 1, 2003 | News Release

NEW YORK - The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is protesting the appearances by Archbishop Desmond Tutu on U.S. college campuses, in view of Tutu's statements comparing Israel to Nazi Germany and complaining about what he called "Jewish arrogance."

Tutu spoke this week at Yeshiva University's Cardozo Law School in New York City, and is scheduled to speak soon at the University of Pennsylvania,

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said "in view of Archbishop Tutu's long record of anti-Jewish and anti-Israel remarks, it is appalling that Yeshiva University's Cardozo Law School invited him as a speaker, and we urge other universities to refrain from inviting him."

lsrael is Like Hitler

The Israeli daily Ha'aretz (April 29, 2002), reporting Tutu's remarks at a conference in Boston, quoted him as saying:

* "Israel is like Hitler and apartheid" "I've been deeply distressed in my visit to the Holy Land it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa ... I have seen the humiliation of the Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about... "I say why are our memories so short? Have our Jewish sisters and brothers forgotten their humiliation? Have they forgotten the collective punishment, the home demolitions, in their own history so soon? ... The apartheid government was very powerful, but today it no longer exists. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pinochet, Milosevic, and Idi Amin were all powerful, but in the end they bit the dust. Injustice and oppression will never prevail."

* "The Jewish lobby is very powerful": "People are scared in this country [the U.S.], to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful--very powerful."

"Critics of Israel are being smeared": "You know as well as I do that, somehow, the Israeli government is placed on a pedestal [in the U.S.] and to criticize it is to be immediately dubbed anti-Semitic, as if Palestinians were not Semitic."

"Jewish Arrogance" Tutu accused Jews of exhibiting "an arrogance--the arrogance of power because Jews are a powerful lobby in this land and all kinds of people woo their support,"(Jewish Telegraphic Agency Daily News Bulletin, Nov. 29, 1984)

"Jewish Monopoly of the Holocaust Tutu complained about the Jewish monopoly of the Holocaust." (Jerusalem Post, July 26, 1985)

"Forgive the Nazis" During his 1989 visit to Israel, Tutu "urged Israelis to forgive the Nazis for the Holocaust" (Jerusalem Post, Dec. 31, 1989), a statement which the Simon Wiesenthal Center called "a gratuitous insult to Jews and victims of Nazism everywhere." During the visit, Tutu remarked "If I'm accused of being antisemitic, tough luck," and in response to questions about his anti-Jewish bias, Tutu replied, "My dentist's name is Dr. Cohen." (Simon Wiesenthal Center's Response magazine, January 1990)

"Zionism Is Racism" Tutu has claimed that Zionism has "very many parallels with racism." (American Jewish Year Book 1988, p.50)

"Jews Thought They Had a Monopoly on God" Speaking in a Connecticut church in 1984, Tutu said that "the Jews thought they had a monopoly on God; Jesus was angry that they could shut out other human beings." In the same speech, he compared the features of the ancient Holy Temple in Jerusalem to the features of the apartheid system in South Africa. (Hartford Courant, Oct. 29, 1984)

"Palestine, Not Israel": In conversations during the 1980s with the Israeli ambassador to South Africa, Eliahu Lankin, Tutu "refused to call Israel by its name, he kept referring to it as Palestine." (Simon Wiesenthal Center's Response magazine, January 1990)

"Jews Cause Refugees": Asked about the Zionism-is-racism resolution, Tutu complained that "the Jewish people with their traditions, religion and long history of persecution sometimes appear to have caused a refugee problem among others." (South African Zionist Record, July 26, 1985)

* * *

The Zionist Organization of America, founded in 1897, is the oldest pro-Israel organization in the United States. The ZOA works to strengthen U.S.-Israel relations, educates the American public and Congress about the dangers that Israel faces, and combats anti-Israel bias in the media and on college campuses. Its past presidents have included Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis and Rabbi Dr. Abba Hillel Silver.

If a Nobel Prize winner like Desmond Tutu says this, it must be true, right?

Tutu is really full of it. There are lots of Christians in the US sympathetic to Israel. Tutu is beginning to sound like he's one step behind Mandela and two steps behind Mugabe.

Tutu, like his colleague Nelson Mandala, is a Commie. The black robe he so likes to sport only covers a heart steeped in anti-capitalism and antisemiticism. He is the incarnation of the modern Brownshirt. As one oberver said, "Do you think Hitler would come back wearing a swastika." No he would return in the guise of a Tutu, Mandala, or Chirac. Different form, little different rhetoric, same deadly intension.

The Bishop's time would be better spent attending to the baby-raping problem in his rapidly declining country. Of course, dancing for coins before U.S. and Euro Leftist patrons no doubt pays better.

The question I have is what this person is doing being invited by none else but Yeshiva Univesity? These people are no longer Jews but Leftists celebrating another Leftist.

The rabbis burned alive in the Yeshivas for their faith are turning in their graves.

Defense Ministry to pay quarter of Phalcon compensation to China

The $319 million in compensation will add to the burden of the cut in the Ministry of Defense’s budget.

Dror Marom 1 Apr 03 16:47

Sources inform “Globes” that the Ministry of Defense will pay a quarter of the compensation Israel is paying China for the cancellation of the Phalcon AWACS plane deal.
A senior Ministry of Defense source revealed that the compensation will total $319 million, considerably more than the $240 million deal for the first Phalcon. The Phalcon cancellation included both the first plane, as well as China’s option to buy three more planes, for a total of $1 billion.

The compensation to China is a further burden on the defense budget, already groaning under the anticipated NIS 2.8 billion cut in its 2003 budget in real terms, compared with its 2002 budget. The Ministry of Finance, which bears most of the cost of the compensation to Beijing, is allowing the Ministry of Defense to pay its share in installments.

The Ministry of Defense stated in response, “We do not comment on defense export deals.”

United Nations Flag causes Flap on College Campus

A group is asking the University of Southern Indiana to remove a United Nations flag from its Evansville campus.

The newly formed U-S Sovereignty Coalition says the U-N flag has no place on a state-funded campus.

The group's president Larry Young says the Sovereignty Coalition was formed in response to community concerns about the presence of the flag at U-S-I. Y

Young says his group has the support of area Veterans of Foreign War posts, the U-S-I College Republicans, Tri-State Men's Ministry and the Indiana Purple Heart Veterans.

University President Ray Hoops says he understands the group's frustration, but he has no plans to remove the flag.

The U-N flag has been on the campus since 1969

"Jews" are no longer a coherent category. There are only Socialists and Zionists left. Anyone who calls themselves Jewish but doesn't support Israel is, to me, just another Socialist.

That is much too extreme of a position and prima facie fallacious.

Judaism has always been about your personal relationship with G-d. Unfortunately, the Reform movement, which largely removed G-d from the temple, had no other reason for existence but social action --- and towards the preservation of Israel in particular. I do not know which part you identify yourself with but your statement only proves the point how much Jews are lost nowadays. However important Israel is for the preservation of the Jewish people, Jewishness and Judaism are not about that but about morals and leading a virtuous life.

A Jew is supposed to repair the world and perform Tikkun Olam, but nowhere does it say that he is supposed to do it by means of a political party or collectively. The Leftists miss that point and claim that they do Tikkun Olam. But defense of Israel is not sufficient either. I cannot therefore accept your classificaiton.

I'm not talking about how Judaism should be, I'm talking about how it is on the ground. I do not know any practicing Jews who are not either supporters of Israel (thus I call them Zionists, and that is not a dirty word to me; I approve of them) or left wing nuts (thus I call them Socialists, and that IS a dirty word to me; I do NOT approve of them).

As for myself, I'm not Jewish.

Please do not misunderstand me: I have the same opinion about both Leftists and Zionists as you do. I only wanted to point out that any religion, including Judaism, cannot be reduced to what one thinks about entities existing on earth: first and foremost, it is a relationship with G-d.

Unfortunately, many Jews, including Zionists, have forgotten that part --- that is the problem I have. I am Jweish, and I have more in common with true Christians than with the Leftists who are from Jewish families (and who are no longer really Jews, in my view).

Our views on the Leftists and Zionists do coincide, however. Thanks for your comment.
